Prospective Graduate Students
The Financial Aid Office wants to help you with a financial aid support package that allows you to succeed in your graduate program at UC Davis. We will work to determine eligibility for, and to deliver federal, state, and University need-based aid to students affiliated with the Office of Graduate Studies, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Management, and the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Graduate students are encouraged to apply for a variety of funding sources including fellowships, grants, loans, and Work-Study. The Financial Aid Office coordinates need-based aid with other sources of funding awarded through Graduate Studies and academic program departments to find the right financial support for your program needs.
Coursework Only Status
Coursework Only is an admission status for students who are enrolled in coursework and paying fees, but have not been admitted into a degree-bearing program. This status is also referred to as Non-Matriculation and Limited Status. Students may be in Coursework Only status for no more than 3 consecutive quarters and only once during their educational history. Students may only apply for alternative loans while in this status. To obtain more information about Coursework Only Admission status, visit the Graduate Studies Web site to learn more about "Non-degree Status": gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/prospective/admissions.html
International Students
If you are an international graduate student in search of funding, you may be eligible for fellowships, scholarships or grants through Graduate Studies. Please review information regarding these options at www.gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/prospective/international.html. Additionally, you may apply for research and/or teaching assistantships through your academic department.
To be eligible to receive need-based federal, state, or University funding you must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, and you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Financial Aid is not available for students with F1 or F2 Student Visas, J1 or J2 Exchange Visitor Visas, or G Series Visas.
International students may also be eligible for alternative loans through a private lender. The Graduate Financial Aid Office recommends that you research available loan products to determine which one best meets your needs. To assist you in this effort, a comparison resource is available online at Private and Alternative Loans.
