Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (JDPEL)

This School of Education Doctor of Education is a joint doctoral program between UC Davis and California State University, Fresno. Only one year of the student's program is spent at UC Davis and is billed and funded through UC Davis Student Accounting and Financial Aid. The School of Education must create a list and provides the list to Graduate Financial Aid to alert our program as to when the student will be enrolled at UC Davis. Once the student list has been generated, if the student has filed a FAFSA, he or she will be packaged with aid as a regular graduate student.

In order to be eligible for financial aid Collaborative students must file a FAFSA. Graduate Financial Aid is responsible for awarding the travel award for this program. If the student is a FAFSA filer the travel award will be posted and OFFSET in the budget for MISC educational travel expenses. If the student is an NON-FAFSA filer, only the travel award will be posted.

Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN)

The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need program provides fellowships through academic departments to assist graduate students of superior ability with need-based funding. The purpose of the program is to sustain and enhance the capacity for teaching and research in areas designated by the federal government to be critical to the national interest. Graduate Financial Aid Office works with the awarding academic program AFTER the department has received their GAANN allocation, to set up fund codes for the awards and to determine final student financial eligibility for the awards.

Credential Masters Program

This School of Education program is a credential program followed by possible acceptance into a Masters in Education component. The program consists of one academic credential year in which a student completes credential and student teaching requirements. In order to be eligible for financial aid Credential MA students must file a FAFSA.

The student expense budget for the credential year is the same as for a regular graduate student. Students in the Credential year are not eligible for Pell Grants as some of the student coursework may contribute to their Master's coursework requirements. Students in this program are, however, eligible for School of Education and University Grant, Cal-TCP Renewal grant, Perkins and Federal Direct Loans.

Following the completion of the student's credential year, the School of Education reviews students for acceptance into the Masters component of the program. Students accepted to the Masters component are funded with Federal Direct Loan only and attend part-time in the Fall and Winter Quarters of their second year.

Joint Degree Programs

Joint degree programs are growing in popularity at UC Davis. These programs often pair a professional degree program (GSM, VM, Law, Med) with a graduate degree program (Community Development, Biochemistry, Engineering).

The professional school, through which the student is participating in a joint degree program, must alert Graduate Financial Aid as to whether the student is being assessed professional or graduate fees. Graduate Financial Aid then, in collaboration with the professional program, determines whether the student should be packaged with a professional school expense budget or a graduate school expense budget.

Education Abroad Program (EAP)

Graduate Students may participate in the Education Abroad Program through EAP. For students participating in established study abroad programs Graduate Financial Aid will adjust student academic year budget's based on budgets provided by EAP. If the study abroad opportunity is not with an established program, the graduate student will have to provide cost of attendance information for their proposed study abroad experience. Graduate Financial Aid will then use that information to adjust the student's budget for their program.
