Types of Assistance Offered to Graduate Students by the Financial Aid Office
The Financial Aid Office only awards need-based grants, loans, and Work-Study. Need is determined through filing of the FAFSA.
Academic graduate students may be packaged with Direct Student Loans and Work-Study. Some graduate students may also be offered small, need-based grants ($50 - $300) from the campus expansion initiatives.
Teaching credential students may be offered UC Grants, campus initiative grants, Perkins Loans, and Federal Direct Student Loans.
Merit-based awards, such as fellowships, stipends, block grants, and scholarships are awarded by the Office of Graduate Studies and/or academic graduate groups or departments. Some of these fellowships, federal training grants, or scholarships are need-based; therefore, Graduate Studies requestes all graduate students to file a FAFSA for full consideration of all sources of support.
