Grants
Grants are gift aid and do not need to be repaid. Grants awarded by the Financial Aid Office are need-based and require filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The online FAFSA application allows students who meet certain Federal Income Tax criteria to skip the FAFSA asset questions. UC Davis, however, requires this information to determine need-based eligibility for institutional funds. Block Grants awarded by the Office of Graduate Studies also require the FAFSA to be filed.
There are many categories of gift aid: grants, stipends, fellowships, and scholarships, and eligibility requirements vary from fund to fund. The Graduate Financial Aid Office and the Office of Graduate Studies recommends all academic graduate students file the FAFSA each academic year to be considered for the broad range of gift resources available.
