General Information about Alternative Loans
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Students should exhaust Federal student loan eligibility before considering private loans. All borrowers must complete a self-certification form prior to receiving a private student loan, which is available at ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/attachments/GEN1315Attach.pdf. Before you begin, please refer to the UC Disclosure for students being directed to consider an alternative/private education loan other than a UC institutional loan.
- Always think before you borrow! Choose a lender based on your personal circumstances and carefully review the benefits and repayment information before choosing a lender.
- Students may select any loan provider they choose. UC Davis complies with the University of California Code of Conduct in Regard to Preferred Lender Arrangements.
- Graduate students should use school code 001313-71 when completing an Alternative Loan Application.
Alternative loans for graduates are available September 1, 2013 - June 12, 2014 for the 2013-2014 Academic Year

UC Davis uses ELM Select to provide information on private loans. Once you access their website, simply click on the Program Type drop down menu to select the appropriate student type. The list includes: Undergraduate, Graduate, Health Professional, Law Student, International, Graduate Business, Bar and Residency. The ELM Select product allows students to pick up to three loan products to compare side-by-side at one time. Students can also sort on a number of filters such as APR and the cost of the loan.
