Winners receive up to $40,000 annually for up to 2 years towards a degree that prepares a student to enter the U.S. foreign services.
- U.S. Citizen
- Junior or Senior at time of application
- Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or greater
- Must be pursuing a public service graduate degree
Applicants should have a strong desire to enter the U.S. Foreign Service for a 3 year appointment as a foreign services officer, which is required of recipients. Applicants should have a record that demonstrates outstanding leadership skills and academic achievement in programs relevant to the work of the U.S. Department of State.
Students should be majoring in public policy, international affairs, public administration, business, economics, political science, sociology, foreign languages, or a closely related field that would be useful as a foreign services officer.
Priority is given to applicants with financial need. Priority is also given to applicants who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and academic achievement in programs relevant to the work of the U.S. Department of State.
Students interested in applying for the Pickering Fellowship need to submit a completed Applicant Profile to the Undergraduate and Prestigious Scholarship Office at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Undergraduate and Prestigious Scholarships Office will work with each applicant to modify and strengthen the application to prepare it for submission. Once the application is ready for submission, the applicant will need to submit the final application through the Pickering website.
