Can you tell me if I've been admitted to UC Davis?
To find out if you've been admitted to UC Davis, click on My Admissions from the UC Davis Admissions Web site. Good Luck and best wishes from the Undergraduate Scholarship Office staff.
Do you have my scholarship check?
UC Davis scholarship awards are disbursed as credits to your student account. A credit balance on the billing statement will result in a check from Student Accounting. Scholarship award checks from outside agencies go to Student Accounting and may be credited to your UC Davis account or, if payable to you, given directly to you upon verification of eligibility.
I got a scholarship from my hometown Rotary Club and they require someone to verify my registration before they will send a check; how do I get that done?
The Office of the University Registrar can officially verify your registration. You can contact them at 530-752-2973 for assistance.
Does the author of a scholarship application recommendation letter have to be a UC Davis instructor?
No. As a new student you may not know anyone well enough for them to write a good letter of recommendation. It is better to have a letter from a teacher at a former school who knows you well. Try to get to know your instructors by going to office hours or even taking the professor out for lunch using the Student Housing Dean Witter Fund.
I have a letter of recommendation from a teacher from when I was last in school five years ago; can I still use it for my scholarship application?
No. The letter of recommendation is now an online process. Therefore, you must request the letter of recommendation through our online form; and, subsequently, your recommender will complete the letter of recommendation online as well. You should always submit the strongest letter that will provide the Scholarship Committee reader with helpful information about you. If a teacher from five years ago is still your best option, they will have to rewrite the letter using the online form.
I’m new at Davis. On the extracurricular activities section of the scholarship application, can I list my high school activities?
Yes. This is usually the case for freshmen and sometimes for sophomores. Very important honors may still be listed for juniors and seniors. By the time a student reaches upper division status, they will usually list more recent involvements.
I recently took the SAT tests again and my scores improved. How do I make sure they get considered as a part of my scholarship application?
The SAT exams are a significant factor in the evaluation of high school applicants for admission and scholarships. The December SAT test sitting is the last date that SAT exams can be taken and be used in the admission/scholarship processes. UC Davis must be listed as one of the schools to receive the scores from the test sitting in order for us to receive the scores in a timely fashion. We do not use test results sent to us directly by an applicant.
Is my scholarship renewable?
Most UC Davis scholarships are not renewable, although you may receive scholarship awards each year that you apply. It is important to reapply each year in order to be considered and eligible to receive scholarship aid.
What are my chances of getting a scholarship award?
This is not an easy question to answer. It depends on your GPA, a subjective assessment of your application (essay, recommendation, activities) by scholarship committee evaluators, and whether your college, major, or other characteristics qualify you for any restricted scholarships. Annually, we make about 1,900 awards to an applicant pool exceeding 25,000 students. There are more qualified candidates than there are awards available.
I already have a Bachelor’s degree; am I eligible for undergraduate scholarships?
Second baccalaureate students are not eligible for undergraduate scholarships.
When will scholarship awards be announced?
Major scholarships directed toward high school seniors are sent out between mid-March and mid-April. Continuing UC Davis students are usually notified during spring quarter. Smaller scholarships may be awarded on into summer and fall as additional funds become available. The large number of applicants prohibits us from notifying all of those not selected for an award.
Why didn’t I get a scholarship?
All students qualified for admission to the University of California are excellent students and worthy of recognition and reward. The University’s scholarship program attempts to recognize as many of these as available funds permit. We make about 1,900 awards annually with a value of over 5 million dollars. With over 25,000 applicants, many qualified students go unawarded.
I’ve received a Regents Scholarship offer from another UC campus. Why am I not getting one from Davis?
Each UC campus offers a limited number of Regents Scholarships, and those numbers vary by campus. Each campus also has its own eligibility criteria and selection process. Some campuses select their Regents Scholars strictly on the basis of an Academic Index, which only considers GPA and test scores. Other campuses, including Davis, use the Academic Index as a screening tool, but use other application data in selecting Regents Scholars.
