UC DAVIS SCHOOL CODE: 001313
Where Do You Start?
Applying for financial aid begins with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The information provided on the FAFSA is used by UC Davis to determine your eligibility for financial aid. Once we determine your eligibilty, we will offer you aid that best meets your financial need. That aid may include grants, loans, Work-Study, and scholarships. The information on the FAFSA is also used to determine your eligibility for State and University funding.
FAFSA4caster
Students and parents can begin exploring financial aid options and get an early start on the financial aid process by using FAFSA4caster, a financial estimator tool developed by the U.S. Department of Education to provide you and your family with an early estimate of eligibility for federal student aid. When you're ready to apply for aid, you can easily transition from FAFSA4caster to FAFSA on the Web. Much of the information that you enter in the FAFSA4caster will populate your FAFSA on the Web application, making the experience of applying for federal student aid a lot easier.
To Apply
You and your parents should obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. File online after January 1 at www.fafsa.ed.gov. List UC Davis School Code: 001313 on the FAFSA.
Apply between January 1 and March 2
To receive priority consideration for state and University funding, apply between January 1 and March 2 each year. Plan ahead to complete the FAFSA for the year you plan to attend college. (For example, students starting college in the fall of 2008 will want to complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA after January 1 and before March 2, 2008). (Note for Cal Grant applicants: March 2, 2008 is a Sunday, applications postmarked Monday, March 3, 2008, or earlier will be accepted as on-time)
If you're applying after March 2, you will still be considered for Federal Pell Grant and Loan eligibility; however, state and university grants might not be available.

Financial Aid Requirements
Be aware of important requirements that can affect your eligibility for financial aid at UC Davis before you accept financial aid.
Verification: If your FAFSA is selected for verification, an electronic Financial Aid Notice (eFAN) prepared for you by UC Davis will instruct you to submit a UC Davis Verification Worksheet and additional documents. All financial aid is subject to change or cancellation pending verification. Aid cannot be processed until all documents are received.
Report All Resources: Use the Change-In-Aid form on eFAN to tell us about scholarships and any other income or benefits not reported on the FAFSA. Students who do not report all outside resources may be required to repay financial aid.
Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP): Federal regulations require that students who receive financial aid must maintain satisfactory academic progress. The SAP Standards for Financial Aid are available for review online.
Educational Leave, Leaving School, Withdrawing from School, or Dismissal: If you participate in the UC Davis Planned Educational Leave Program (PELP), withdraw from school, leave school, or are dismissed from UC Davis for any portion of the academic year, you may be required to repay financial aid. If you accept loans as part of your financial aid, your grace period, which is the six-months you are given after you leave school until you must begin repaying your loans, will be reduced by the amount of time you are on leave.
Accurate Information Required: Accuracy is important when you apply for financial aid. All information is subject to verification according to state and federal regulation. False statements or misrepresentations may be cause for denial, reduction, cancellation, or repayment of financial aid.
Apply for Scholarships at UC Davis: October to December
Entering freshmen apply for scholarships when they complete the UC Application for Admissions and Scholarships. Current UC Davis undergraduates can apply for scholarships by completing and submitting the Continuing Undergraduate Scholarship Application before the first of December. The application is available online at financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships after October 1. A letter of recommendation and transcripts are required.
Apply for Cal Grants
New Cal Grant Applicants
All undergraduates are required to apply for Cal Grants by submitting a FAFSA. When you complete the FAFSA, your information will be sent to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) for consideration of a Cal Grant award. A California school must be listed on the FAFSA. New applicants must also file a GPA Verification form directly with CSAC before March 2 (Note: March 2, 2008 is a Sunday, applications postmarked Monday, March 3, 2008, or earlier will be accepted as on-time). Forms are available online at www.csac.ca.gov and at college financial aid offices and high school counselor's offices.
Cal Grant awards are posted as estimated awards. Actual eligibility is subject to change or cancellation pending verification by the school. Awards cannot be processed until all documents are received.
Cal Grant Renewals
Students currently receiving Cal Grants must file a FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA each year to continue receiving Cal Grant.
FAFSA Tips . . .
- File electronically. If you or your parents don't have a PIN when you file, you'll need to print and sign the signature page and send it to the Federal Processor.
- File the FAFSA after January 1 and before March 2. Do not submit or date the FAFSA before January 1.
- Answer all questions on the FAFSA. If you or your parents haven't filed your federal income taxes yet, calculate your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and taxes paid using the instructions for IRS Form 1040. The instructions and the form are available online at www.irs.gov/formspubs/index.html. Keep copies of your completed tax returns and W-2s.
- Include UC Davis School Code 001313 and a housing code on your FAFSA.
- Parents of Dependent Students: Provide your income information and sign the FAFSA (obtain a separate PIN at www.pin.ed.gov and sign electronically).
- If you file the FAFSA online, write down your confirmation number or (if possible) print the confirmation page, which is provided when your FAFSA is accepted and submitted online. If you don't receive a confirmation number, your FAFSA has not been properly completed or filed.
- If you file a paper FAFSA, send it to the federal processor in the envelope provided. Use regular, first-class mail and get a certificate of mailing. Do not use registered, certified or express mail.
- Cal Grant A, B, or C Applicants: Complete and mail the Grade Point Average (GPA) Verification Form to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) before March 2 (Note: March 2, 2008 is a Sunday, applications postmarked Monday, March 3, 2008, or earlier will be accepted as on-time). Read the Tips for Completing the FAFSA at www.csac.ca.gov.
- Keep copies of your completed FAFSA and GPA Verification forms. Immediately respond to any requests from the Financial Aid Office for additional information.
What to Expect After You File the FAFSA . . .
- Your Student Aid Report (SAR)
- If you apply online and provide an e-mail address, the Federal Processor will notify you by e-mail when your FAFSA is received and processed, and direct you to a web site to view your Student Aid Report (SAR) online.
- The SAR explains how your eligibility for federal aid was determined, summarizes your FAFSA information, and provides you with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC). If you don't receive an e-mail confirmation, you may not have completed the FAFSA. Check the status of your application through www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- If you don't provide an e-mail address, within four weeks the Federal Processor will send you a paper SAR.
- Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is shown in the top-right corner of the SAR. The Financial Aid Office will use the EFC to determine your eligibility for aid.
- If there is no EFC included on the SAR, the federal processor could not process your application and you might need to correct the SAR. You can make corrections online through www.fafsa.ed.gov, or contact the processor to resolve the problem.
- An asterisk printed next to the EFC (e.g., EFC: 1234*), indicates your file has been selected for federal verification. We will require a completed UC Davis Verification Worksheet and additional documents as needed (e.g., federal tax returns) to confirm your eligibility for financial aid.
- UC Davis Financial Aid award information for undergraduates (with a valid SAR) will be available online beginning in mid-March. When your aid is available for viewing, you will receive either e-mail or a postcard directing you to your electronic Financial Aid Notice (eFAN).
