Entering Students

Entering Students

Welcome to those of you who have been accepted and plan to attend beginning in the Fall Quarter! We have put together the following information to help you navigate the steps you need to take to be sure you have the funding you need to get started:

June of your senior year in high school:

  • Visit MyAwards to find out if you've been offered financial aid at UC Davis.

Scholarships

  • You applied for scholarships when you applied for admission to the University. If you have received a scholarship, you will receive notice from the Undergraduate Scholarship Office in April or May. Check MyAwards to see the amount and be sure to submit an accept/decline form to the Scholarship Office for any scholarships you are offered. To apply for scholarships next year, you will need to complete the UC Davis Continuing Student Scholarship Application, which is available online beginning in October.

Financial Aid

  • As an entering student, you've probably applied for financial aid by completing the FAFSA when you applied for admission to the University. If not, do that right away. The types and amounts of aid you receive are affected by the date you file the FAFSA. Students who apply before March 2 are considered for university and state grant funding that may not be available after March 2. However, don't be discouraged. Pell Grants and low interest loans are still available to students who qualify for aid.
  • Complete the FAFSA on the Web (FOTW) between January 1 and March 2. List the School Code: 001313, to have your information sent to us.
  • Students and their parents should obtain a PIN (Personal Identification Number) at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN will allow you and your parents to sign the FAFSA on line, and to make changes and corrections online after you file.
  • Submit the GPA Verification Form to the California Student Aid Commission before March 2 to apply for Cal Grant. The form is available online at www.csac.ca.gov
  • When we receive your FAFSA information, UC Davis will review your eligibility according to the UC Education Finance Policy. The policy establishes a Cost of Attendance, subtracts an Expected Family/Student Contribution and any Federal or State aid awarded and determines your eligibility for a UC grant.
  • Applicants may be asked to verify the information on their FAFSAs. Keep copies of important papers such as Federal Income Tax returns with all schedules, W-2 forms and bank statements. Work and save during the summer. As much as possible, be prepared to meet your expected Student Contribution.

Maintaining Eligibility

  • Students who receive financial aid are expected to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to remain eligible for financial aid. In addition, students who withdraw, drop out, or drop below half-time enrollment may be required to repay financial aid. We recommend all students read the Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards and the Return To Title IV Funds policies to learn about their responsiblities as financial aid recipients.
