Private and Alternative Loans

To assist you in making the best choice in a lender we encourage you to click on the SimpleTuition link below. SimpleTuition is an independent technology company that provides a web-based student loan comparison platform. You can compare lenders for overall cost, interest rates, front and back end repayment incentives, and more. Please understand you are not required to use this online option. The selection of a student loan provider is entirely your choice.

Please complete the following steps before applying for private or alternative loans:

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  (International students must complete a paper FAFSA and contact the Financial Aid Office after you have successfully applied for the loan).
  2. After your FAFSA has been successfully processed and you have been notified by our office that an eFAN is available for your viewing, log on to financialaid.ucdavis.edu/eAwards to view your awards and all requirements.
  3. Once you have borrowed the maximum amount of Direct Loans that you are eligible for, you may apply for the Alternative Loans through the link provided below for the periods indicated. You (the student) must be enrolled in units before you apply for the loan.
Alternative loans can only be certified for one loan period at a time.
Please complete a separate loan application for each loan period for which you are requesting a loan.
