UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
The University of California, Davis administers over two hundred scholarship funds which benefit undergraduate students. These scholarships are provided through the generosity of alumni and friends of UC Davis; corporations, businesses, professional associations; and the University itself. For your convenience, a description of each fund is included. The funds are organized by categories and by alphabetical listing for those categories with more than two funds listed. TOPEmerson B. Clark Award
This award was established in 1999 through a donation by Emerson B. Clark. Preference for recipients is to be given to Native American students.
Iranian Alumni Association Scholarship
The fund was established by the UC Davis Iranian alumni community to support students who are of Iranian descent and have financial need. The recipient or at least one parent of the recipient must have been born in Iran.
Lupe Social Justice Scholarship
This scholarship is for high achieving students who are children of farm workers. Recipients will be selected based on demonstrated financial need, leadership and an expressed interest in and activity towards social justice causes. The scholarship may be renewed, as long as eligibility is maintained.
Ivy Douglas Ostrom
The United Daughters of the Confederacy established the Ivy Douglas Ostrom Scholarship in 1938. It is restricted to financially needy students displaying distinguished scholarship who are descendants of a Confederate Veteran or of an old and notably worthy family of the South.
Sergio Perez & James Wilson Mull Scholarships
This scholarship was established by a gift to the campus after Sergio Perez’s passing and further funded by the estate of James Wilson Mull. Mr. Perez and Mr. Mull’s hope was that this fund would provide support for students who are seriously interested in perusing their education but may have encountered certain barriers and attitudes that would have made this goal difficult to attain. It is restricted to students of Hispanic origin who are American citizens and have demonstrated financial need.
Pope Valley
Established in 1984 as an anonymous gift, the Pope Valley Scholarship is awarded to outstanding undergraduates; preference is given to women applicants.
Shirin & Javad Rahimian Scholarship
Shirin and Javad Rahimian both graduated from UC Davis with Shirin receiving a degree in English Literature in 1983 and Javad in Electrical Engineering in 1968. They have chosen to provide a scholarship to encourage students of Iranian ancestry to further their education. The scholarship is restricted to students who have financial need.
M. Wilson Richards
The Mabel Wilson Richards Scholarship Fund was created by the Will of the late Mabel W. Richards to support worthy and needy girls from Southern California.
Payam and Gouya Zamani Scholarship
The Zamanis established this scholarship for the purpose of benefiting financially needy students, with preference for those of Iranian heritage.

Established in 1964 by a gift from the membership and board of the fraternity.
Alexander Family Trust
Established in 1996 by a bequest from the estate of alumnus Frank Alexander for the education of agricultural students.
Harry Baccigaluppi
Established in 1989 by family and friends of this California Wine industry pioneer, this scholarship is restricted to students of viticulture and enology. Mr. Baccigaluppi was general manager of Italian Vineyard Co. at Guasti and a past president of the California Wine Institute.
Robert Lawrence Balzer
Established in 1982 by his friends in commemoration of his 70th birthday, this scholarship honors a man who was a businessman, journalist, teacher, world traveler, Buddhist monk, and wine connoisseur. It is restricted to students in viticulture and enology.
Barbara Drake Bearden
Friends and family of Mrs. Bearden established this scholarship at her death in 1992 in memory of her love of flower gardening. It is restricted to students studying plant science who have a specialization in floriculture/nursery management.
Stephen & Mary Birch
Established in 1955 by a gift from the Birch Foundation which derives a portion of its income from an investment in a non-irrigated ranching operation near Chula Vista, this scholarship is restricted to students interested in dry land farming.
Ross Borba Sr. Family TOP
Established in 1990 to honor this Riverbank and Fresno area rancher and his family, the scholarship is awarded to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences who demonstrate leadership and are residents of, or high school graduates from, the counties of Fresno, Kings, Madera or Tulare.
Alice C. Bridge Memorial
Alice Bridge and her husband, Homer L. Bridge, were employees of the Food Science and Technology Department. This scholarship was created by a provision in Mrs. Bridge’s Will and the first awards were made in 1968. They are restricted to American-born students in the Department of Food Science and Technology who have financial need.
Ernest Briick
Ernest Briick was a successful orchardist even though he had limited formal education. He valued highly the role of education in agriculture and was an active user of county extension services. His wife, Luella, established this scholarship in 1991 for upper division students specializing in pomology who have financial need.
California Dairy Industries Association
The California Dairy Industries Association (CDIA) has sponsored scholarships at UC Davis since 1968. They are restricted to students working toward a degree in the dairy industry program.
California League of Food Processors TOP
Since 1959 the California League of Food Processors has provided scholarship recognition for undergraduate students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences.
Capitol Press
Established in 1983, The Capitol Press of Salem, Oregon has provided scholarship support for students with financial need who are planning on a career in agriculture.
Ranchers Cotton Oil-Earl J. Cecil Scholarship
Earl J. Cecil was one of the founders and first president of Ranchers Cotton Oil & Company, the state's largest cottonseed oil company. A California agricultural pioneer, he helped found the company in 1951. This scholarship was established in 1992 and is restricted to students majoring in agriculture in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences at UC Davis.
Chau-Hsiung Chuang TOP
Mr. Chuang graduated from UC Davis in 1968 with a major in Applied Behavioral Sciences. As a successful businessman in the San Francisco Bay area, he and his wife, Yueh-Jing Chuang, have chosen to provide scholarships restricted to students in Human and Community Development in recognition of the outstanding commitment by departmental faculty.
Concord Farm Bureau Center
First awarded in 1985, this scholarship funded by the Concord Farm Bureau Center is for graduates of any Contra Costa county high school studying the agricultural sciences or an agricultural related field.
Ed & Mary Court TOP
Established in 1985 by the sons of William Edward Court and Mary Elizabeth Court this scholarship is restricted to students in the field of pomology. Ed Court was in the Davis class of 1929 and was assisted in financing his education by Judge Peter J. Shields.
John Arpin Davies Memorial
John Arpin Davies was a former UC Davis student. His mother established this scholarship in his memory in 1983 to assist students in obtaining a college education. She passed away in 1990. The scholarship is restricted to students with financial need who are pursuing studies in livestock production.
Luther & Marie Davis
Both Dr. and Mrs. Davis taught at UC Davis for many years. Mrs. Davis taught in the Math Department and Dr. Davis was in Pomology. During his 37 years of research on fruit trees, Dr. Davis developed five new peach varieties. This scholarship for students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences was established by a provision in Dr. Davis' Will in 1981.
Daniel B. DeLoach Agricultural Economics
Daniel DeLoach was a UC Professor of Agricultural Economics, serving first at UCLA and then at Davis until his retirement in 1971. He had previously taught at Oregon State and served on the staff of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This scholarship was established in 1994 by a bequest in his Will and is restricted for undergraduate scholarships in the Department of Agricultural Economics.
General Dillingham Produce Industry TOP
The late "General" Harold Stone Dillingham was a produce industry leader for 50 years and an officer in the Produce Reporter Company. Friends and associates established this scholarship in his honor in 1977. It is restricted to upper division students pursuing a career in agribusiness with preference for those interested in the marketing end of the produce industry.
Dolores Dumont Scholarship
Dolores M. DuMont was a staff advisor in the Environmental Science & Policy (ESP) dept. for over 30 years. This scholarship was established in 2001 by former students and associates to honor her service. Open to students in the ESP department only.
Donald & Ellen Eberly
Established in 1990, the Eberly Scholarship is restricted to students with demonstrated interest in environmental/atmospheric studies who have financial need and are citizens of Canada, Mexico or the United States.
Farm Home Department Home Economics
Established in 1939 by the California Farm Bureau Federation, this scholarship is for students majoring in an area of home economics with a preference for sophomores from a rural home.
The Foodsters
The Foodsters is an organization of professionals who work in areas related to food marketing and management. They have provided this scholarship at UC Davis since 1954. It is restricted to U.S. citizens who show an interest in the practical aspects of food marketing or management.
Matilda Newsom Fowler TOP
This scholarship was established in 1964 as a part of the Will of Jessie N. Trueblood in honor of her sister, Matilda Newsom Fowler. Both sisters were graduates of UC Berkeley. The scholarship is restricted to women with financial need who are majoring in fields traditionally considered home economics.
Carl L. Garrison
Carl Garrison was a prominent rancher and alumnus of UC Davis. He was past president of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, former president of the California Beef Council, and past Chairman of the Grand National Junior Livestock Exposition. Carl’s family and friends established this scholarship in his memory in 1975. It is restricted to upper division students in the Department of Animal Science who are planning a career in livestock production.
Louis R. Gomberg
This scholarship was established in 1983 to honor one of the wine industry’s leaders. Louis Gomberg had been a concert pianist, journalist, and lawyer before becoming involved in the wine trade in 1935. He was involved in economic analysis, marketing, public relations, media, and comparative wine tastings. He served as a wine consultant for the State Department and the White House. The scholarship is restricted to students with an interest in the economic aspects of viticulture and enology.
Eddy & Emmy Gordon
Gillette Eddy Gordon was a dairyman with the University of California Agricultural Extension Service for 35 years. He was a dairy judge of international renown and was named by the U.S. Dairy Science Association as Outstanding Extension Dairyman. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon had a particular interest in the development of young people. Friends and family members established this endowment in 1961 as a memorial which would assist young men and women in their educational pursuits. It is restricted to student leaders with an interest in dairying or a closely related field who have been active in 4-H or FFA.
Guild Wineries & Distilleries
Established in 1976 by Guild Wineries & Distilleries, this scholarship is restricted to upper division students in the Department of Viticulture & Enology who show a keen interest in a career in the California wine industry.
Arlo D. Gustafson Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded to undergraduates in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
Jack C. Hart Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2002 by a gift from Howard H. Leach in memory of and to honor his friend, Jack C. Hart. In 1948, Mr. Hart founded Royal Packing Company where he pioneered field pack lettuce. He was President of the Central Arizona Grower Shipper Association and the Western Growers Association. The scholarship is restricted to undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science with preference to students from Monterey County or the state of Arizona.
W. Landon Heffner Scholarship TOP
The award is in honor and memory of W. Landon Heffner, a non-traditional student, who spent his career motivating others toward creative paths of success. It is restricted to non-traditional students or reentry students of agriculture in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis.
H. J. Heinz Company
The H. J. Heinz Company established this scholarship in 1996 for needy students who are enrolled in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. First preference is given to children of any Heinz Company employee or grower; second preference is given to students from the Central Valley counties of Yolo, Solano, Colusa, Sacramento, Contra Costa, San Joaquin or Fresno.
David Milton Herman
David Milton Herman was a farmer (alfalfa and muscat grapes) in the Wasco area from the early 1900s until his death in 1941. This scholarship was established in 1996 by his daughter, Mollie Waddell, and is restricted to graduates of Wasco Union High School who will attend UCDavis in a curriculum associated with agriculture.
Pardow Hooper
The scholarship was established in 1992. It is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences.
Elizabeth Graves Hosselkus
Mrs. Hosselkus was an undergraduate student at Davis in the 1920s. She graduated in 1925 with a major in animal husbandry and was active on the livestock judging team. After graduation she was employed in the Animal Husbandry Department until her marriage to William R. Hosselkus. She died in 1972. Mr. Hosselkus established this scholarship in her memory in 1987.
Elmer H. Hughes
Professor Hughes was a faculty member and former Chairman of the UC Davis Department of Animal Husbandry. His colleagues, friends and students contributed to establish this endowment in his memory in 1952. It is restricted to entering freshmen who are studying animal science.
International Food & Wine Society of the Americas
This award is provided by the Society for outstanding students in the Department of Viticulture & Enology.
Robert & Louise Jameson
Mr. and Mrs. Jameson established this award in 1979. They are no longer living, but the endowment fund in their names will continue their desire to recognize and assist students in meeting the costs of higher education. It is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences with a preference for students who are graduates of Amador High School in Sutter Creek.
Henry A. Jastro
The Jastro Scholarship honors the memory of one of the early general managers of the Kern County Land Company. Mr. Henry A. Jastro had a strong relationship with the College of Agriculture at Davis up until his death in 1925. This award is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences.
Harold & Elizabeth Kendall TOP
Harold Kendall received his B.S. in animal husbandry in 1929 and served as ASUCD President among his many extracurricular activities. As a successful businessman, he has citrus, avocado and tropical fruit enterprises in the Caribbean, Mexico, England and the U.S.. He helped pioneer the use of citrus byproducts in animal feeds. He has served as Chairman of the UC Davis Foundation Board of Trustees and contributed in innumerable ways to the campus. Elizabeth Kendall is a former research associate of Chancellor Emeritus Emil Mrak. The Kendall Scholarship is restricted to students in the Department of Animal Science.
T.O. Kluge - Sunsweet Growers
O. Kluge was the Executive Vice President of Sunsweet Growers, Inc. At his retirement in 1965 his coworkers endowed this scholarship program in his honor. It is restricted to students majoring in agricultural science and management, agricultural economics, agricultural biosciences, or food science.
Paulden F. & Dorathea I. Knowles Agronomy
This award was established in 1991 through a major gift from Dorathea Knowles and gifts from friends and colleagues of the late Paulden F. Knowles. Dr. Knowles was a world renowned and highly respected member of the Department of Agronomy and Range Science. His accomplishments as a teacher and oil crops breeder were widely recognized by the scientific and industrial community interested in the world’s oil crops. The award is restricted to students who are interested in plant breeding.
Kratzer, Ogasawara, Vohra Scholarship Fund
This fund was established in 1983 and originally called the Avian Sciences Scholarship Fund. The name was subsequently changed in honor of Professors Howard Kratzer, Frank Ogasawara and Pran Vohra’s important contributions to the campus’ mission of teaching, research and public service. It is restricted to undergraduate and graduate students in Avian Sciences.
Bob & Dorothy Laben Undergraduate
Robert Laben was the faculty master advisor in the Department of Animal Science for over 18 years. This scholarship was established in 1993 as a part of the "Students First Campaign" and recognizes Professor Laben and his wife. It is restricted to students in the Department of Animal Science with a preference for those demonstrating leadership skills.
Lawn & Garden Marketing & Distributing Association TOP
LGMDA is an active association of distributors, retailers and manufacturers of lawn and garden goods committed to bringing together the key players of the lawn and garden industry and providing the latest information and tools needed to respond to the future. They established this scholarship in 1997 and it is restricted to students who demonstrate financial need who are majoring in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field.
Ming Hop Lee Memorial
In 1986 Sunny Lowe established this scholarship in honor of his mother-in-law. Mr. Lowe was a staff research associate in the Department of Plant Pathology. The scholarship is restricted to upper division students majoring in the fields of entomology, plant pathology, vegetable crops, or pomology who have expressed an interest in a career with Cooperative Extension.
William & Charlotte Lider
The William and Charlotte Lider Trust was established to support undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science with majors relevant to plant science. It is restricted to students with financial need.
J.M. Long Endowed
The J. M. Long Foundation, philanthropic arm of the Long’s Drug Stores chain, established this scholarship in 1995. It is restricted to students studying in the areas of wildlife, fish and conservation biology; environmental biology and management; or soil and water science.
Ben A. Madson
Ben Madson was a pioneer in agricultural education. He began his academic career at the University of California in 1910, served as Chairman of the UC Davis Agronomy Department from 1927 to 1948, and for six years (1948-1954) was Director of the University’s agricultural field stations. This scholarship was established in 1974 by a provision in Mr. Madson’s Will. It is restricted to upper-division students who are U.S. citizens and who are studying range management, plant science, or international agricultural development with a specialization in agronomy.
Robert K. and Esther J. Malcolm
Robert Malcolm was a Davis area rancher and land developer who helped in the reclamation of "Liberty Island" in the Sacramento Delta. Malcolm Hall on campus was named in his honor. Esther Malcolm supported this award in her husband’s memory from the early 1950’s until her death in 1995 at which time it was endowed through a provision in her Will. It is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences.
Fred S. (Ted) Macomber TOP
Established in 2003 by family and friends of Mr. Macomber. The scholarship is restricted to students with financial need interested in studying agricultural and ranching issues.
McBeth Memorial
The McBeth Memorial Scholarship was established in 1986 by Barbara McBeth Woodruff in honor of her parents, Ira Guy McBeth and Rose McBeth, and her sister Frances McBeth Black. I. G. McBeth received a Ph.D. from the University of California in 1915. He made notable contributions to the citrus industry and was an executive in agricultural, chemical and development companies. While president of the Leffingwell Chemical Company, he had a close relationship with the Davis campus. The McBeth Scholarship is restricted to students studying entomology.
James Monroe McDonald #5
In 1923, Mrs. Mary J.L. McDonald established a number of scholarships with the University honoring James Monroe McDonald. Scholarship #5 was restricted to male students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences who are pursuing studies related to the cattle industry and the improvement of grazing lands.
Steven D. Mendivil Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2002, the Steven D. Mendivil Scholarship provides financial assistance to incoming freshmen who have financial need and are pursuing a career in agriculture, environmental, or human resources. It is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. Steve Mendivil was an employee of the University, Agricultural and Natural Resources, from June 1980 until his death in May of 2000. In recognizing Mr. Mendivil's contribution to the University, the donors wish to celebrate youth whose activities have initiated or expanded opportunities that promote respect and change.
Jack Messick Memorial
Jack (John K.) Messick was a 1963 graduate of UC Davis having majored in agronomy. At the time of his death in 1979, he was Vice President of the J.G. Boswell Corporation and a Director of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association. During his professional career, Mr. Messick helped promote agricultural research and agricultural leadership training. The Messick Scholarship is awarded to students interested in a career in agribusiness, particularly in plant science.
Emil Mrak Memorial
Emil M. Mrak came to Davis in 1951 to serve as Chairman of the Department of Food Science and Technology and was internationally known for his work on the preservation of foods and the biology of yeasts. He was Chancellor at Davis from 1959 to 1969 and presided over a tremendous period of campus growth. At the time of his death in 1987, friends and associates established this scholarship to honor his memory. It is restricted to students studying in the field of food science and technology.
Bob Munyon Scholarship
The Bob Munyon scholarship was established in 2003. The scholarship is awarded to third- and fourth-year undergraduate or graduate students in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis.
Cecelia E. Murphey TOP
Established by a provision in the Will of Cecelia Murphey, the first Murphey Scholarships were awarded in 1992 and are restricted to students from Sacramento or Yolo counties who are needy and deserving agricultural students. Cecelia Murphey, at one time, ran an agricultural related business near Arbuckle.
Native American Agriculture Award
In 1996 the University received funds to establish this endowment for needy students wishing to study agriculture, gardening and/or horticulture, with a preference for Native Americans.
Hans Elle Nielsen
This scholarship was established through the trust of Clyde W. Nielsen in honor of his father, Hans Elle Nielsen. The scholarship is restricted to undergraduate students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences.
Gail E. & Ruth M. Oliver
Established in 1986 as a result of a provision in Mrs. Oliver’s Will, this scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. Mr. Oliver predeceased his wife in 1958. Both of the Olivers were keenly interested in students and created this award to assist them in their educational goals.
Orange County Wine Society
The Orange County Wine Society has sponsored this award for students in the Department of Viticulture & Enology since 1986.
David D. Peebles
David Peebles was a friend of the Davis campus who was active as a food engineer, industrialist, and investor. He was involved in the development of an instant process for dry skim milk and a method for sandblasting eggs. The scholarship fund was first established in 1957 to honor Mr. Peebles on his birthday and subsequently was endowed by his friends and family as a memorial. It is restricted to students studying food science, avian science, poultry husbandry, or agricultural engineering.
Clement & Jeanne Pelissier
Clement Pelissier was an extension dairyman with UC Davis Cooperative Extension for many years. He and his wife established this scholarship in 1995 for Animal Science students who are California residents interested in livestock with a preference for dairy cattle.
Evelyn K. Peterson
The Evelyn K. Peterson Fund was established in 2003 to provide support to undergraduate students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences.
Jack T. Pickett Agricultural TOP
Jack T. Pickett was a highly respected leader in California agriculture. For 34 years he was editor and publisher of "California Farmer Magazine." His vision and leadership contributed to the success of the industry and State he dearly loved. The Pickett Family established this scholarship in his memory in 1988. They hope to encourage young men and women who are both excellent students and leaders by restricting the scholarship to students interested in careers in agriculture who have demonstrated leadership capabilities.
George W. Pierce
George Pierce was a pioneer Yolo County agriculturist. He had a major influence in the selection of the site of the Davis campus. An endowment in his memory has supported students majoring in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences since 1962.
Bert A. Reinero
This scholarship was established in 1986 through a provision in Mr. Reinero’s Will. He had been a student at Davis and was a resident of Nevada at the time of his death. The scholarship is restricted to white, needy, students majoring in agriculture.
Lilie May Richards
This scholarship was established in 1958 through a provision in Mrs. Richards will. She and her husband, Charles had operated a dairy in Carmichael, California from 1930 to 1952. Prior to their involvement with the dairy, Mrs. Richards was a teacher in Nevada County and Mr. Richards operated a grocery store. The scholarship is awarded to students interested in dairying and demonstrating financial need, with a preference for graduates of San Juan High School.
David Risling Intertribal Award
The award was established in honor of former Native American Studies faculty member David Risling, to recognize his commitment to Indian higher education and his concern for future generations of Native American students. It is awarded to Native American students on the Davis campus who have financial need. Students will be required to provide documentation verifying Tribal membership and complete a FAFSA verifying financial need.
Greta Breedlove Ross
Greta Breedlove Ross and her husband, Robert Wiley Ross (B.S. Civil Engineering, 1982), were killed in a tragic accident a few months after their wedding in 1985. They had met as UCD students through the Cal Aggie Square Dance Club. At the time of their death, Robert was completing work on his Master’s Degree in civil engineering and Greta was completing her Baccalaureate Degree in Animal Science. This award was created by their parents, family and friends and is restricted to upper division Animal Science majors with a preference for students interested in animal genetics or related fields.
Second Lieutenant Warren R. Salz Memorial
Warren Roger Salz graduated from UC Davis in December 1941 after completing a two-year animal husbandry program. He entered military service in 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps until February 1943 when he lost his life in Tunisia during the North African Campaign. This scholarship was established by his family and is restricted to entering freshmen who are U.S. citizens and pursuing a major in agriculture.
Frances J. Saunders
Francis J. Saunders worked his way through UC Davis obtaining a Ph.D. in 1937 in comparative physiology. He only owed $100 upon completion of his degrees. He held a position with G. D. Searle for 30 years as an endocrinologist. His wife, Helen Saunders, established this scholarship to honor and in memory of her husband and the experience he had in putting himself through school. It is restricted to students from farm families who have had some experience in FFA or 4-H and who have financial need.
Walter R. & Carolyn J. Schoenfeld TOP
Walter R. Schoenfeld was a UC Berkeley graduate who became prominent in California agribusiness. At his death in 1961, his wife, family, and friends established a scholarship in his memory. When Mrs. Schoenfeld died in 1993, the fund title was changed to recognize their joint commitment to supporting higher education. The scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences with demonstrated financial need.
Bernard S. and Alta G. Schweigert
Bernard Schweigert joined the faculty of the Department of Food Science and Technology and served as Department Chair from 1970 to 1988. Dr. Schweigert was instrumental in establishing the Department’s Ph.D. program, was a pioneer in the study of irradiation to preserve the nutritive value of foods, and was noted for his efforts to improve the quality of the world food supply. Colleagues of Dr. Schweigert established this scholarship in conjunction with a symposium to mark the conclusion of his service as Chairperson and in memory of his wife, Alta. Dr. Schweigert passed away in 1989. The scholarship is restricted to students majoring in Food Science or Food Biochemistry who have shown leadership in addition to academic achievement.
Henry W. Seale Scholarship-Loan
Henry W. Seale was a late 19th century contractor and rancher whose property was the site of the original Palo Alto Townsite. This scholarship in his memory was established by his daughter in 1919. It is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences who have financial need. Recipients are asked to contribute to the fund should future circumstances permit.
Peter J. Shields Scholarship
Judge Shields was known as the "father" of the Davis campus. In 1899 he conceived the idea of a Sacramento Valley agricultural college and in 1905 he helped write the enabling legislation. The main campus library, a major campus avenue, and a 15-acre grove of oaks in the arboretum are all named in his memory. The Shields Scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Lewis Clark Starr Scholarship
TOP Lewis Clark Starr was a UC Davis student in animal science and agricultural education in the 1930’s. He tragically lost his life shortly after completion of his education in 1939. The endowment supporting the scholarship was established by Mr. Starr’s family. Recipients must have a major interest in animal husbandry.

John F. Steindler Scholarship
John Fox Steindler was a resident in the City and County of San Francisco, California and died on June 21, 1989. This scholarship was established in September 1990 by a provision in his Will. It is restricted to students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences.
Lloyd W. Swift
This scholarship was established in 1997 by Lloyd and Rose Swift to recognize the contribution that UC Davis made in Mr. Swift’s life and at the same time to encourage undergraduate students to study and pursue careers in wildlife and fish conservation, as was his good fortune. Mr. Swift retired after 35 years with the U.S. Forest Service, culminating with his selection as the second Chief Biologist in the history of the Forest Service. He passed away in 2001. This award is restricted to undergraduate students pursuing a career in environmental systems related to wildlife and fish conservation, with special emphasis to entering students.
Ellen C. Thomason Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1992 in fond memory of Ellen C. Thomason who had a love of gardening. Mrs. Thomason was born in Shasta County, California on May 6, 1903. She lived in Davis from 1927 to 1957 with her husband, Boris J. Thomason and her four sons. Two of her sons, Ivan J. Thomason and Edmund J. Thomason, graduated from UC Davis in 1950. Mrs. Thomason died in Concord, California on December 6, 1992. The scholarship is restricted to students majoring in environmental horticulture with preference for students who demonstrate financial need.
Orville E. Thompson Award
This fund was established awards to students who are majoring in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences or have declared an interest in a career in agricultural education within the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Eric Thor Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 1982 in honor of Eric. The scholarship is restricted to junior or seniors majoring in Managerial Economics.
Robert J. Tingley Scholarship TOP
Robert J. Tingley worked for 40 years for the Holly Sugar Corporation serving as Pacific Coast Manager in Stockton and Assistant to the Vice President. He had a close working relationship with UC Davis faculty over many years as the sugar beet industry grew to become a major California crop. Mr. Tingley placed great value on education and had worked hard to put himself through college in his youth. This scholarship in his memory was established in 1996 by his daughter and her husband, Carol and Hal Sconyers. It is restricted to needy students in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences who are from the San Joaquin Valley with preference for students from San Joaquin County.
George H. Vansell Scholarship
George Vansell taught entomology and apiculture at UC Davis from 1922 to 1931. From 1931 until his death in 1954, he served with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Davis. Mr. Vansell’s research led to a better understanding of the role of bees in crop pollination and to improvements in the nation’s supply of alfalfa and other legume seeds. The scholarship in his memory was established by his wife, Jane Baird Vansell, and is restricted to needy entomology majors with a preference for students interested in apiculture.
Howard and Ida Vaughn Scholarship
The Vaughns were residents of Dixon and progressive leaders in the sheep industry. Mr. Vaughn served as a president of the National Wool Growers Association. Their fondness for the Davis campus resulted in the establishment of this endowed scholarship program in 1965. It is restricted to students majoring in one of the fields of production agriculture, including agricultural economics.
William J. Wiesner Memorial Scholarship
This memorial scholarship was established in 1987 by the family, friends, and associates of William J. Wiesner. It is used to recognize outstanding students in the Department of Viticulture and Enology. Mr. Wiesner lived in California most of his adult life and developed a strong interest in California wines. He made many visits to wine-producing areas and enjoyed learning about the growing of grapes and making of wines.
Pearl and Albert J. Winkler Scholarship
Albert J. Winkler was a Professor in the UCD Department of Viticulture and Enology. Established by friends and associates in 1962 and later enhanced by Professor Winkler and his wife, this scholarship is restricted to students intending to work in the American grape or wine industry.
Frank M. Yeatman Wildlife Living Memorial Scholarship
Frank M. Yeatman was a Davis student who tragically lost his life in a Squaw Valley avalanche during the 1981-82 school year. He was an outstanding student in the Wildlife & Fisheries Biology program and was well like by his professors and peers. The Yeatman family and friends established this memorial to recognize and assist students with interests and abilities similar to Frank’s. It is restricted to needy upper-division students majoring in Wildlife & Fisheries Biology or a similar major who have shown evidence of distinction in their area of study.

Stephen K. Robinson is a NASA astronaut and UC Davis graduate. He has established this scholarship to recognize students in the field of mechanical and aeronautical engineering. It is restricted to students with financial need.
Roy Bainer Engineering
Established in 1990 by family and friends, this fund honors the founding Dean of the UCD College of Engineering. A professor of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. Bainer was an internationally recognized leader in the mechanization of agriculture and an inventor of seed processing equipment. The Bainer Scholarship is offered to outstanding prospective engineering students to encourage them to enroll at UC Davis.

Since 1999, the Bechtel Foundation has provided scholarship support to students in the College of Engineering and College of Letters & Science.

Walter D. Buehler TOP
Established by his wife, Carol, in 1986 in honor of his 60th birthday, this scholarship recognizes the founder of the Buehler, Buehler & Associates structural engineering firm. Mr. Buehler was the structural designer of Bainer Hall. The scholarship is restricted to upper division Civil Engineering students interest in a career in structural engineering in the Sacramento area.

Chevron and its various divisions have provided scholarships for students in various majors in the College of Engineering at UC Davis since the early 1970s.
Richard C. and Joy Dorf Scholarship
The Dorf Scholarship was established in 2005. It is in recognition of a student's potential for future achievement. It is restricted to students in the College of Engineering with demonstrated outstanding and exceptional personal leadership.
Jane C. Elliott Memorial
Jane Elliott worked with students for many years in the College of Engineering
Dean’s Office. She helped initiate several mentoring and support programs including the Center for Women in Engineering, MESA, and the Engineering Summer Residency Program. At the time of her death in 1993 from breast cancer, family and colleagues established this scholarship for students in the College who were underrepresented (including women, disabled, and ethnic students).
Students First, College of Engineering Scholarship TOP
In 1994 UC Davis initiated a $15 million fundraising campaign to help offset the impact of a series of budget cuts and increases in student fees. The "Students First" campaign has resulted in many gifts to the campus. Unrestricted gifts have been combined and are being awarded as "Students First" Scholarships. This award is restricted to students in the College of Engineering who have financial need.

Fred Fuchslin TOP
Fred Fuchslin received his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering at UCD in 1983. His life was sadly cut short when he died of cancer in October 1984. His mother and family created a scholarship endowment in his memory to encourage other engineers who desire to use engineering for betterment of mankind. Two scholarships are awarded annually-one in electrical engineering and one for any field of engineering.
Rocky Han Scholarship
In appreciation of his education at UC Davis, Layton Han establish the Rocky Han Scholarship in honor of his father. It is restricted to students in the College of Engineering with financial need. This scholarship may be renewed as long as the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria.
Ben L. Hagglund
This scholarship was established in 1957 by the Pacific Southwest Dealers Association. Mr. Hagglund was the southwest sales manager for the farm machinery firm Caterpillar Company at the time of his death in 1956. The scholarship is restricted to financially needy students who are majoring in agricultural engineering and who are from Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, or Utah. Mr. Hagglund was raised on a farm in Iowa and received a degree in animal husbandry from Iowa State College. Prior to commencing his employment with Caterpillar, he was a farm advisor in Santa Barbara County for five years and worked two years as a ranch superintendent.
Alan Jackman Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2008 in honor of Professor Alan Jackman of the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science department. To recognize his accomplishments in the field and contribution to the campus, noted alumna, Pam Fair, initiated a drive to raise funds for this endowed scholarship; she and her husband are also major contributors to the fund. It is restricted to undergraduates in the College of Engineering with a major in the department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science.
Robert A. and Denzil M. Kepner Scholarship
This endowment fund was established to support undergraduate and/or graduate students with a preference for students in Biological Systems or Mechanical Engineering.
Omar George Mahshi Memorial
Established in 1994 by relatives and friends, this scholarship honors the memory of a UCD senior Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering student who lost his life in a tragic car accident less than a year before graduation. Intended to recognize students who exemplify characteristics Omar shared, the scholarship is restricted to someone of upstanding moral sensibilities with a history of volunteer activity, especially favoring involvement in efforts to increase mutual understanding and respect among mankind; who demonstrates deep commitment to family, relatives and friends; who is a good athlete or enjoys physical sport; a junior majoring in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering; and who, preferably, is from Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico or Southeast Asia.
Montoya
Steve Montoya graduated from UC Davis with a degree in electrical engineering in 1977. He established the Montoya Endowed Fund for Minority Scholars in 1995 to encourage Hispanic students to pursue careers in engineering. Mr. Montoya was one of the founding members of the UCD Chicanos and Latinos Engineers and Scientists Society (CALESS). In 2006, Mr. Montoya changed the terms of the fund to be for financially needy upper-division students in the College of Engineering who are U.S. citizens and California residents and are members of CALESS.
Robert Murdoch
The Robert Murdoch Memorial Scholarship was established in 2000 to honor the memory of Robert Murchoch who died in July 1998. Mr. Murdoch graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a Computer Engineer at Intel’s Folsom facility and pioneered the development of new technologies while helping the department grow from a 20-person operation in 1985 to an employer of 500 today. It is restricted to students in the College of Engineering majoring in Electrical & Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Howard R. Murphy
Mr. Murphy graduated from the Department of Agricultural Engineering in 1925. In 1988, family and friends established this scholarship in his honor in recognition of his continually generous support of others and his unwavering commitment to UC Davis. The scholarship is restricted to students majoring in biological systems engineering.
Robert Roy Owen
Robert Roy Owen graduated from UC Davis in agricultural engineering. He has had an extensive career in business management serving as General Manger of the Ford Motor Company Tractor Division and later as President of Eversman Manufacturing Company. Established in 1966, this scholarship is for students in the College of Engineering, with a preference for students studying Biological Systems Engineering.
John Eric Peckham Memorial Scholarship
John Eric Peckham was a 1998 UC Davis graduate in mechanical engineering. He was an active cyclist, both at UC Davis and after he graduated; in fact, he earned a spot on the San Francisco Bay Area’s Webcor/Alto Velo Bicycle Racing Club’s Elite Racing team. Mr. Peckham was on a ride when his life came to a tragic end at the age of 31; he had ridden ahead of his companions when an intoxicated driver lost control of his car and hit Peckham. His friends and family have memorialized him through an annual ride through Portola Valley and Woodside. He will also be remembered perpetually through this scholarship, established by his mother, Mary Ann Parker, in 2007. Recipients are to have demonstrated financial need, with primary preference for engineering students and secondary preference for students with other science-related majors.
Russell L. Perry
Russell Perry was a Professor at the University of California for 58 years. Beginning at Davis, he also worked at UCLA and UC Riverside. He was a pioneer in research related to food processing especially heating, drying, refrigeration and ventilation. At the time of his death, his wife and family established this scholarship for students in the College of Engineering at Davis as his professional career started here and was always considered his home base.
Ramey-Romstad TOP
The Ramey-Romstad Scholarship was established anonymously in 1991 by a UCD graduate to honor the inspiration provided by civil engineering professors Dr. Melvin Ramey and Dr. Karl Romstad. The scholarship is restricted to needy freshmen in the College of Engineering
who are Chinese-American.
Wood Rogers Civil Engineering Scholarship
Wood Rogers has established annual civil engineering scholarships. It is restricted to Juniors and Seniors who are majoring in Civil Engineering. Preference will be given to students who are residents of California, Idaho, or Nevada. Preference will also be given to students showing an interest in Private Land Planning or Public Works Consulting.
Robert Wiley Ross
Robert Wiley Ross (B.S. Civil Engineering, 1982) and his wife, Greta Breedlove Ross, were killed in a tragic accident a few months after their wedding in 1985. They had met as UCD students through the Cal Aggie Square Dance Club. At the time of their death, Robert was completing work on his Master’s Degree in civil engineering and Greta was completing her Baccalaureate Degree in Animal Science. This scholarship was created by their parents, family and friends and is restricted to senior civil engineering majors.

Established by the Harold and Helen Smith Trust in 1998 to support students in the field of Agricultural Engineering. Restricted to students with financial need.
Arthur and Julia Suran Scholarship
This scholarship was set up in honor of Arthur and Julia Suran by their son, Dr. Jerome J. Suran. Recipients will be selected by the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Established in 1997, the Teichert Foundation Scholarship is restricted to junior level students majoring in Civil Engineering.
Jeff and Dianne Child/Steve Whitaker Scholarship
This fund was established to honor Professor Steven Whitaker who "is widely regarded as one of the department's finest professors and who influenced me in countless positive ways . . ."says the donor. It is restricted to upper division students in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science with the completion of one or more business oriented courses.
King and Linda Won Family Scholarship
The Won Family Scholarship was established in 2008 by a generous donation from King and Linda Won. Students must have demonstrated financial need, but can be part of any undergraduate major in the College of Engineering.
Wu Family Foundation
The Wu Family Foundation Scholarship was established in 2003 by Jannie Wu to provide financial support to needy College of Engineering first-year undergraduates. The scholarship is restricted to California residents.

TOPRuth E. Anderson Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of UC Davis Dean of Women, Ruth Anderson. She served her post as Dean of Women and Associate Dean of Students from 1962 until her retirement in 1987. Recipients are to have demonstrated financial need and are pursuing a major or minor in Women and Gender Studies; preference is for female students.
Michael Alan Anthony Grant
Don and Arlene Anthony established this scholarship in memory of their son Michael. Michael studied economics and was a member of the cross country team at UC Davis. The scholarship is restricted to undergraduate students eligible for financial aid, who have completed their freshman year at UC Davis and are enrolled in academic majors in economics or history.

Since 1999, the Bechtel Foundation has provided scholarship support to students in the College of Engineering and College of Letters & Science.
Bruno & Audrey Bracka
The Bruno W. and Audrey M. Bracka Scholarship was established by Audrey Bracka in 2000 to honor the memory of her husband and to advance the study of the German language by UC Davis students. The Bracka family’s affiliation with the UC Davis campus began the early 1980’s when Bruno traveled to the campus to recruit for General Dynamics where he worked for 33 years.
Daniel J. Crowley Memorial Scholarship
The Daniel J. Crowley Scholarship was established in 1999. Professor Crowley joined the faculty at UC Davis in 1960 and served the departments of Art History and Anthropology. He specialized in the arts and culture of Africa and the Diaspora. He championed the recognition of African artists for their unique contributions and helped many folklore projects including a number to study Carnival and Mardi Gras celebrations throughout the world. When he died in his sleep in Bolivia in 1998, he was leading a research expedition to study Carnival. The Scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Letters & Science who are majoring in the humanities and who have a physical disability.
Cusumano Family
The Cusumano Family counts UC Davis grads among multiple generations. Gary and Diana Cusumano established this scholarship in 1994 as a part of the Students First Campaign. It is restricted to incoming students in the College of Letters and Science.
Donald & Ellen Eberly
Established in 1990, this scholarship is restricted to science majors in the College of Letters & Science who have financial need and who are citizens of Canada, Mexico or the United States.
Clare Ficklin
Clare Elizabeth Ficklin was a gifted businesswoman who was deeply and passionately committed to her community, particularly through her involvement in national politics. This award, established in 1998, is restricted to students majoring in Political Science and who have a passion for politics, as evidenced through participation in student government, political groups and/or through career aspirations or study plans.
Christine Diane Fisher Memorial
Christine Diane Fisher graduated with honors from UC Davis in June 1989 having completed majors in International Relations and Spanish. She died shortly thereafter in December. Her family established this scholarship to encourage students who, like Christine, were going on the Education Abroad Program to Spain; had serious academic interest in Spanish history, language, society and culture; read and write Spanish and wish to become fluent; and who are willing to live with Spanish nationals off-campus in the community during their year abroad in Spain.
James & Leta Fulmor
James Fulmor, an alumnus of UCD, was among the first students to attend UC Davis. He was a member of the class of 1914. He and his wife, Leta, farmed in the Solano County community of Dixon. Mr. Fulmor died in June 1983, seven months after the death of his wife. The Fulmor Scholarship was created via a bequest and is awarded to high achieving students studying in majors within the College of Letters and Science.
Hach Chemistry Teaching Award
The Hach Scientifc Foundation established this scholarship with the hopes to improve chemistry education in the state of California for years to come. It is restricted to full-time Chemistry majors with a 3.0 GPA or higher, who are committed to becoming chemistry teachers. The students must also be US citizens. Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is renewable for students who remain at UC Davis, even those pursuing a teaching credential through the School of Education.
John W. & Ernestine L. Heinrich TOP
Established in 1995 by a provision in Mrs. Heinrich’s Will, this scholarship is restricted to needy students in the College of Letters & Science or the College of Engineering.
Richard A. Huberty
Richard Huberty received is B.A. in American Studies from UC Davis in 1956. He served as ASUCD President in 1954-55. He stayed involved in alumni affairs after graduation and served on the Alumni Association Board from 1963-70. At the time of his death in 1997, his family established this scholarship for students majoring in history with a preference for those emphasizing American history and, in particular, who have a demonstrated interest on research and study of California.
International Relations Education Abroad Scholarship
The goal of the International Relations Program Education Abroad scholarship is to encourage UC Davis undergraduates to internationalize their educational experience by helping them with financial support for study abroad. The scholarship is restricted to students majoring in International Relations who are participating in the Education Abroad Program.
Everett Dale Jackson Memorial
Everett Dale Jackson was an alumnus of the University of California and a distinguished geologist. He achieved international recognition in the areas of igneous petrology, vulcanology, mineral deposits, lunar geology and ocean basin tectonics. He was also noted for the inspiration and encouragement he provided to younger scientists. The scholarship in his memory was established in 1980 by family and friends and is restricted to upper-division students majoring in geology.
W. Turrentine Jackson
The William Turrentine Jackson Scholarship was established in 1960 to honor this distinguished member of the History faculty. The award is restricted to upper-division majors in the history department who have a demonstrated interest in the history of the United States.
William B. Jameson
This scholarship was established in 1986 through a provision in the Will of Margarete B. Jameson. Preferred recipients are sophomore male students in the College of Letters & Science who have demonstrated financial need.
Charles S. Linderman Scholarship for Participatory Democracy
Charles Scott "Chuck" Linderman was an idealist who loved political campaigns. His work with "Campaign California," "Citizen Action," and partisan political efforts were living laboratories that demonstrated individuals can make a difference. Mr. Linderman worked passionately to empower and educate people disenfranchised by poverty and lived the ideals of civil and human rights, economic justice and participatory democracy. Joyce Poirot and the Board of the C.S. Linderman Scholarship Fund established this scholarship in his memory in 1998. It is restricted to students in the College of Letters and Science, with a preference for students in the Department of Political Science, who demonstrate financial need, potential for community leadership, and an interest in participatory democracy. Priority is given to applicants from groups historically underrepresented in, or denied access to, the political process.
Frank A. Mesple TOP
At the time of his death in 1979, Frank Mesple was a lobbying for the County of Sacramento and an instructor in the UCD Political Science Department. He formerly served as a top aide in the administration of Governor Edmund G. Brown, Sr. Friends and associates created the memorial endowment fund which supports this scholarship and restricted it to upper-division students majoring in political science or political science/public service who are interested in California State or local governments.
Heather Nikkel-Lampe TOP
This award is made in memory of Heather Nikkel-Lampe, a 2001 graduate of UC Davis who passed away in 2005 at the young age of 32. Recipients must be enrolled full time in the College of Letters & Science and must be able to demonstrate that they have perservered through difficult life circumstances in achieving their educational goals, as Heather did. When possible, preference will be given to at least one history major and students with financial need.
Political Science Undergraduate
Funded by an anonymous donor, this award is restricted to upper division students majoring in Political Science who have done all of their lower division work at UCD and who have contributed to the campus by participation in student government, community service, student activities, athletics, or other activity.
Eric C. Ruliffson Scholarship
Eric Ruliffson received his degree from UC Davis in 1998 in mathematics. He played varsity football and was a member of Theta Xi fraternity while at the University, and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. He was elected to the Board of Partners for Coopers and Lybrand, which later merged with Pricewaterhouse, being the first actuary to be so honored. The scholarship was established by family and friends in his memory and is restricted to financially needy undergraduates majoring in mathematics with a preference for upper division students.
Lesley Diane Sanchez Memorial
The family of Lesley Sanchez established this scholarship in her memory in 1993. At the time of her death, she was a senior political science major who was planning to attend law school and pursue a career in politics. The scholarship is restricted to women majoring in political science who have financial need.
Evelyn M. Silvia Scholarship
The Mathematics Department, along with friends and colleagues, established this scholarship in memory of Professor Evelyn M. Silvia. Because of her advocacy for the improvement of K – 12 math education, their intention is to support future mathematics teachers. The scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Letters and Science that are majoring in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics, who have attained at least junior standing and have an interest in teaching mathematics at the K-12 grade levels.
Nancy & Gregory Sterling
Greg and Nancy Sterling established this scholarship to recognize students who are active in community volunteer service. Mrs. Sterling graduated in 1981 with a major in music, while Mr. Sterling received his degree in Agricultural & Managerial Economics in 1979. They were active in ASUCD and participated as student summer advisors. It is restricted to undergraduate students in the College of Letters & Science with preference to upper division students.
Nedjelko Dinko Suljak
"Ned" Suljak (1917-1985) was a native of Yugoslavia. He immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1940s. Having obtained law degrees in Europe, he received degrees in social science and library science at the University of Chicago. Prior to his retirement from UC Davis in 1982, he served for many years as the librarian of the Institute of governmental Affairs and as a reference librarian in Shields Library. This scholarship was established by his wife and friends and is restricted to needy student in political science with a strong interest in a career in law.
Tim Sweetland Scholarship Fund
Tim Sweetland graduated in 1982 from UC Davis with a B.A. in economics and later received his MBA from the University of Washington. He started this fund because he wants to support students majoring in economics and believes the future of California’s economy is dependent of the success of our students. This scholarship is restricted to full-time, College of Letters and Science, economics majors having attained at least junior standing. Students should be California residents, and preference is given to those who have completed at least one UC Davis communications course.
Emilyn Louise Vaage TOP
Emilyn Vaage studied German at UCD and was an employee in the College of Letters and Science Dean’s Office at the time of her death. Her parents, Professor and Mrs. Lauren E. Rosenberg established this scholarship in her memory in 1979. It is restricted to students majoring in German who have financial need.
Carolyn F. Wall Scholarship
Established in 2002 by Carolyn Wall with donations from friends and colleagues. Carol Wall was Vice Chancellor of Students Affairs at UC Davis at the time of her retirement. This scholarship is restricted to undergraduate students in the College of Letters & Science with financial need.
COLLEGE OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
TOPLouise & Eric Conn Scholarship in Biochemistry
This scholarship was established in 1994 as a part of the Students First Campaign. Dr. Conn is a professor emeritus in biochemistry, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, recipient of the UC Davis Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award and the UC Davis Foundation Prize for Teaching and Scholarly Achievement. Mrs. Conn is an active volunteer with a number of local and international human services programs. The scholarship they have established is restricted to students majoring in biochemistry.
Alden S. Crafts
Dr. Crafts, who died in 1990, was a former chairman of the Botany Department and an expert on weed control. At his retirement in 1964, friends and colleagues established this scholarship in his honor. It is restricted to students majoring in botany or biological sciences with a plant science emphasis.
Barbara A. Horwitz & John M. Horowitz
Professors Horwitz and Horowitz who have been members of the UC Davis faculty for more than 25 years established this scholarship in 1995. It is restricted to needy students in the College of Biological Sciences who are studying physiology. Both professors have been honored with the Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award and Barbara Horwitz was the 1991 recipient of the UC Davis Prize for Undergraduate Teaching and Scholarly Achievement.
Oliver Leonard Memorial TOP
Oliver Leonard was a professor in the UCD Botany Department from 1950-1974. He was a pioneer in the discipline of weed science and was one of the first scientists to investigate the use of herbicides for weed control in cotton and to use radioactive herbicides to study translocation in plants. Dr. Leonard’s wife established this memorial in 1977. It is restricted to needy students with an interest in botany, or to those majoring in a field of biological science.
Milauskas Family
The Milauskas Family Scholarship was established in 1994 by Albert Milauskas, M.D., and his wife, Dorothy. Their daughter, Elizabeth, graduated from UCD in 1994 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Dr. Milauskas is an ophthalmologist and, with his nurse/wife, owns and operates the Milauskas Eye Institute in Palm Springs. Dr. Milauskas holds an adjunct teaching appointment at UCLA. The Milauskas Family Scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Biological Sciences as this is an extremely important foundation for graduate work in the health sciences.
John and Jeanne Pryor Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Mr & Mrs Pryor. It is restricted to students in the College of Biological Sciences from Monterey County. Preference is given to those from the Salinas Valley Area.
Wilfred William Robbins
Wilfred Robbins came to the Davis campus in 1922 and was one of the pioneers in the agricultural sciences. He was particularly interested in applied botany and extension activities; his research was widely published and he was the author of several books. Robbins Hall on the Davis campus was named in his honor. This scholarship was established in 1980 by a bequest from the Will of Dr. Robbins’ wife, Barbara Robbins. It is restricted to students majoring in botany.

TOPM.L. Bailey Memorial
The family of Martha Lynn Bailey established this memorial fund in 1995. Scholarships from it are awarded to female continuing undergraduates who have financial need and demonstrate an interest in mathematics and the sciences. "Bailey" was a senior civil engineering major at Davis who had planned to use her engineering skills to help improve the environment.
Robert C. Dean TOP
Mr. Dean established this scholarship to support students who are orphans or came from a single-parent family, as he was an orphan. He spent his working career as an engineer and wished to help students in their educational endeavors in engineering or the sciences.
John & Terry Kubota
Prior to his death, Yoneo "John" Kubota established this scholarship in 1988 to encourage outstanding students and in memory of his late wife, Teruko "Terry" Kubota. Mr. Kubota was a retired UCD staff member who worked for many years in the Department of Environmental Horticulture. The scholarship rotates every three years among students majoring in plant science, music, or art.
Tracy and Ruth Storer
This scholarship was established in 1987 by a bequest from the Storers whose involvement with the campus dates back more than 70 years. Tracy Storer founded the Department of Zoology at UC Davis in 1923. Ruth was the first pediatrician in Davis and set up childcare clinics throughout Yolo County. The scholarship is restricted to students with an interest in graduate study and research in animal related sciences, or the biology of an animal system, with a preference for those not planning to attend professional school.

Julie Bryant Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2008 in memory of Julie Bryant, a UC Davis student, whose life was cut short in November, 2007 in a tragic car accident. Recipients shall be incoming freshmen from Alhambra High School in Martinez, CA; but if no student qualifies, selection may be made from other high schools in Contra Costa County, CA. Students shall also have demonstrated leadership skills and extracurricular involvement.
George S. and Marjorie E. Butler
The Butler Scholarship was established is 1969 by a provision in the Will of Marjorie Butler. It is restricted to students from the California counties of Humboldt or Del Norte who show financial need.
David & Mary Cruden
This scholarship was established in 1961 by Davina Ruth Cruden in honor of her parents. It is restricted to male students of at least sophomore standing who are natives and residents of California and who have financial need.
Richard D. & Kate Faulkner
Established in 1944 by a bequest in Mr. Faulkner’s Will, this fund is restricted to students from Placer County.
Frederick Carl Herman Flossfeder TOP
Professor Flossfeder died in 1957 and through a bequest in his Will established this scholarship for students who are graduates of Fachhochschule Wiesbaden, Germany; have one year of practical experience in viticulture, pomology, horticulture, landscape gardening, or olericulture; have a fair knowledge of the English language; are unmarried, at least twenty-one years of age, but not older than twenty-five; and not a National Socialist (Nazi), Communist, or a member of any party which advocates the overthrow of the government by force or violence.
Greenwell-Switzer
This scholarship was established in 1994 by a bequest from the Estate of John Dixon Switzer. Mr. Switzer was a 1940 graduate of the Berkeley campus. He was a counselor and teacher at Hayward High School for many years until he retired in 1969. Mr. Switzer’s aunt, Gertrude, and her husband, William Greenwell, were strong influences in Mr. Switzer’s decision to go into teaching. Mr. Greenwell had been in public education for many years and became principal of Oakland’s Chinatown elementary school. They are included in the name of the scholarship he established as a remembrance of this important role they had in his life. The Greenwell-Switzer Scholarship is restricted to financially needy students entering UC Davis who have graduated from schools in the Hayward Unified School District.
Harriet M. Hauber
Harriet Hauber was a resident of Nevada City who made a provision in her Will for this scholarship. The first awards were made in 1924. Students must be residents of Nevada City and have attended Nevada Union High School to be eligible.
David Milton Herman
David Milton Herman was a farmer (alfalfa and muscat grapes) in the Wasco area from the early 1900s until his death in 1941. This scholarship was established in 1996 by his daughter, Millie Waddell, and is restricted to graduates of Wasco Union High School who will attend UCD in a curriculum associated with agriculture.
Kelly J. Kolozsi Memorial
Kelly Kolozsi was a remarkable young man, who, despite a learning disability, graduated from Menlo Atherton High School and UC Santa Barbara. He died at the age of 24 in an accident caused by a drunken driver. His parents, John and Martita Kolozsi, established this scholarship in his memory in 1989. It is restricted to graduates of Menlo Atherton High School or a high school in the Sequoia Union High School District with a preference for students with a learning disability.
Edward F. Kraft
The Kraft Family were pioneer Tehama County residents active in retail and banking activities. Edward was one of the sons of Herbert Kraft. This scholarship was established in 1920 by a provision in the Will of Edward Kraft. It is restricted to students from Tehama County studying in any area except agriculture.
Patricia Berry Kruszelnicki & Beth and Peter Kruszelnicki Memorial
Established in 1992 by a gift from the estate of Lola M.M. Berry, this scholarship is restricted to needy students from Fresno County.
Frank McArthur
The late Frank McArthur established this scholarship in 1948 to assist worthy students pursuing their post-secondary education. It is restricted to graduates of high schools in Lassen, Modoc, Shasta or Siskiyou counties.
Estella H. Magnuson/John Bradley Ryburn TOP
Estella H. Ryburn Magnuson, a Linden area civic leader, philanthropist and world traveler, was the first woman to serve as a director of the Linden-Peters Chamber of Commerce. She was a major supporter of the Linden Future Farmers of America. This scholarship was created in 1990 by a provision in her Will. It is restricted to any Future Farmers of America student graduating from Linden Union High School who is in need of scholarship aid.
Laura Perrott Mahan
Established in 1962 through a provision in Mrs. Mahan’s Will, this scholarship is restricted to residents of Humboldt County. Mrs. Mahan was a former resident of Eureka.
Modesto High School
This scholarship was established by Miss Rachel Woods in 1983 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Modesto High School. Miss Woods was a teacher at the school for many years. She hoped to assist bright students who might not be able to continue their education for financial reasons. The scholarship is restricted to needy Modesto High School graduates, with a preference for students studying agriculture.
Mary Pillot
Established in 1946 by the Scholarship Committee of San Jose High School, this award is restricted to meritorious graduates of San Jose High Academy who have been nominated by the principal.
M. Wilson Richards
The Mabel Wilson Richards Scholarship Fund was created by the Will of the late Mabel W. Richards to support worthy and needy girls from Southern California.
Barbara Hussey Riggins
Barbara Hussey Riggins was a teacher in the Antioch, California school district and a graduate of the University of California, as were her parents and other relatives. In 1985 she established this scholarship to encourage Antioch students to attend the University. It is awarded to students in priority order from the following categories: (1) children or grandchildren of an Antioch classroom teacher; (2) graduates of Antioch High School; (3) graduates of Holy Names High School of Oakland; (4) graduates of Carondelet High School of Concord; (5) graduates of Presentation High School of Berkeley; and (6) graduates of St. Mary’s High School of Berkeley.
Ellen C. Schwartz
Established in 1933 by a provision in her Will, the Schwartz Scholarship is restricted to financially needy graduates of Calistoga High School or any other Napa or Sonoma County high school.
R.E. and Hilda M. Sparling Scholarship
The scholarship was established by the bequest of the estate of Hilda M. Sparling, a lifetime Dixon resident. She never had the opportunity to attend college and wanted to give Dixon students and others the chance to enhance their education. It is restricted to financially needy residents and graduates of Solano County high schools with a preference for graduates of Dixon High School.
Tarrant Family Scholarship
The Tarrant Family Scholarship, established in 2006 by Connie and Jeffrey Tarrant, is for students who graduated from high school or attended community college in Stockton or Lodi, California. Preference is given to those with demonstrated financial need.
Teale Memorial
Established in 1973 by former California State Senator Stephen P. Teale, M.D., this scholarship is restricted to freshmen and sophomore students from the following counties: Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Stanislaus and Tuolumne.
Opinderjeet Singh Toor
This award was established in 2004 in memory of Opinderjeet Singh Toor. It is restricted to needy high school graduates from Butte or Sutter Counties and needy transfer students from Butte or Yuba Community Colleges. Preference is given to basketball players on the Butte or Yuba Community College teams.
Herbert Tryon
Herbert Tryon passed away in 1955 and through a provision in his Will established an endowment to provide scholarships for needy students from Del Norte, Humboldt, Siskiyou, and Trinity Counties with a preference for graduates of Del Norte County high schools.
Miguel Valez Scholarship Fund
The Miguel Velez Scholarship was established through a testamentary trust with The Regents of the University of California in the 1960s. Income from the endowed fund is shared by the undergraduate campuses of the University to support student scholarships. Awards are made on the basis of character, ability and financial need, with preference given to students from Columbia, South America or those whom are direct legal descendants of Mr. Velez. Secondary preference is for those from other Latin American countries. These preferences are based on citizenship/residency of these countries, not ethnic identity.
Susie Voorhies Memorial
Susie Voorhies was born on a farm and lived there until she came to California as a young adult. She was a resident of Davis and held a special fondness for its small community. Her son, the late Professor E.C. Voorhies, established this endowment in his mother’s memory in 1954.
Frank and Carolan Walker
First awarded in 1967, Carolan Walker established this scholarship through a provision in her Will. It is restricted to residents of Humboldt County.
Violet E. Wilson
This scholarship was established in 1969 by a bequest in her Will and is restricted to graduates of Benicia High School.
Elizabeth Power Wood Scholarship-Loan
Established in 1933 pursuant to the terms of her Will, this scholarship is restricted to students from Placer County. Recipients are encouraged to contribute back to the fund should their conditions permit without serious inconvenience.
Jarena D. Wright
This scholarship was established in 1979 by a provision in the Will of Rosalie C. Rohr. Mrs. Rohr had been active in the Sonoma County agricultural community. The scholarship is restricted to students from Santa Rosa, or who attended a Santa Rosa city school, with a preference for individuals who have participated in FFA, 4-H, or similar programs.

The Associated Students of UC Davis (ASUCD) established this scholarship via a gift to the "Students First" campaign in 1995. It is awarded to students on the basis of merit, economic disadvantage, or community service.
Cal Aggie Alumni Association Leadership
The Cal Aggie Alumni Association established this scholarship many years ago to recognize incoming students who have demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities, community activities, employment, or personal situations.
Joseph Bonnheim Memorial
Established in 1897 by Albert Bonnheim and Fanny Weinstock Bonnheim in memory of their son, this scholarship is restricted to students with financial need who are between the ages of 16 and 19 at the time they are first awarded.
Boyd Scholarship
The Boyd Scholarship, established in 2000, is in memory of Eugene and Kathryn Boyd, two prominent former Sacramento residents. It is supported by the Boyd Foundation. Qualified individuals must be their family's first generation to attend a four-year university.
Del Rey Fraternity
Established in 1991, The Del Rey Fraternity Scholarship is awarded to descendents of Del Rey Fraternity members, members of a fraternity or sorority, or students at the University of California.
Reno and Margaret Cruz Scholarship
Mr. and Mrs. Cruz established this scholarship in 2007 to provide financial support to students in order to reduce their need to work and/or borrow money to cover educational expenses. It is restricted to continuing undergraduate students at UC Davis with demonstrated leadership and financial need. Preference will be given to first-generation college students.

John S. Edwards
John Edwards was a 1906 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. When he died in 1951, his Will created an endowment which funds this scholarship for students who are interested in a career in public affairs.
Anne Noel Fazio
Anne Noel Fazio was a 1995 UC Davis graduate. She majored in history, was active in campus activities, and displayed a zest for life which was not hindered by her own medical problems. This award in her memory was established in 1997 by her family and friends to recognize and encourage students who have experienced serious medical difficulties related to leukemia or cancer during their adolescence and who have demonstrated their commitment to pursue their education in the face of those associated challenges.
Santiago and Gregoria Gonzalez Award
The Gonzalez Award was established in 2008 by Arturo Gonzalez in honor of his parents, Santiago and Gregoria Gonzalez. This award supports financially needy undergraduates who are children of farm workers or railroad laborers and have an interest in attending law school or working in the legal profession.
Rufus X. Holman & Roosevelt Holman
Established in 1997 by Sandy Holman, this scholarship is restricted to needy students of African descent with preference for residents of the African Diaspora House. It honors her grandfather and father and their belief in supporting the pursuit of higher education for young people who are often underrepresented on college campuses.
Fang J. Lee TOP
The Fang J. Lee Scholarship was established in 1988 by Mr. Lee’s widow, Ellen C. Lee, his son, Raymond C. Lee, and friends of the Lee family. It is restricted to a needy, single parent, with preference for women who have a child or children, none of whom shall be older than six years of age.
Kenneth Ross Levy
Ken Levy was a former ASUCD President who died of leukemia at the young age of 26. After finishing his undergraduate work, he also graduated from King Hall Law School. Ken’s many friends, associates and family established and continue this award in his memory. The first award was made in 1993. It is restricted to students who have been active in student government.
Phi Sigma Kappa
This scholarship was established in 1977 by the alumni members of the Omicron Triton Chapter of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Preference in awarding the scholarship is given to direct descendants of alumni members of Phi Sigma Kappa and the Zeta Xi Fraternity and the Capon Club which preceded it.
Heather Nikkel-Lampe TOP
This award is made in memory of Heather Nikkel-Lampe, a 2001 graduate of UC Davis who passed away in 2005 at the young age of 32. Recipients must be enrolled full time in the College of Letters & Science and must be able to demonstrate that they have perservered through difficult life circumstances in achieving their educational goals, as Heather did. When possible, preference will be given to at least one history major and students with financial need.
Osher Scholarship
The scholarship was established by the Bernard Osher Foundation. It is restricted to re-entry students between 25 and 50 who are in good academic standing and eligible for need- based financial aid. The applicants must demonstrate academic potential and motivation in the application materials.
Blanche L. Price
Established in 1996 by a gift from the Estate of Blanche L. Massagli, recipients of this scholarship are recommended by the University Farm Circle Scholarship Committee. It is restricted to junior women who have displayed scholarship, leadership, service, and participation in extracurricular activities and who have shown evidence of overcoming a disadvantage. Preference is given to residents of a San Francisco public housing project.
Otto W. Shaler
The Shaler Scholarship is restricted to foreign students with financial need. Mr. Shaler, who died in San Francisco in 1951, established this scholarship through a provision in his Will in appreciation of the privileges he had received in the U.S., his adopted country.
Howard B. Shontz
Howard B. Shontz was a 1941 graduate of UC Davis. After a few years in the Unites States Army, he and his wife moved to Davis where Mr. Shontz began his lengthy career in student services at the University. He held positions at Davis, Berkeley, Santa Cruz and the Systemwide office in Oakland. This award is restricted to third year students who were California Aggie Alumni Association (CAAA) Leadership Scholarship recipients as freshmen.
Malcolm R. Stacey Memorial
Established in 1977 by a provision in the Will of Harriette Stormes in memory of her son, the Malcolm Stacey Scholarship is restricted to needy, Jewish students with preference for students majoring in aeronautical engineering.
Opinderjeet Singh Toor
This award was established in 2004 in memory of Opinderjeet Singh Toor. It is restricted to needy high school graduates from Butte or Sutter Counties and needy transfer students from Butte or Yuba Community Colleges. University Farm Circle Marion Freeborn TOP
University Farm Circle (UFC) was formed in 1914 as an informal social group and over many years has expanded its activities to assist students, welcome newcomers to the University campus and community, and provide programs and activities for its members. UFC began awarding scholarship prizes in 1938. In 1959, these awards were named the Marion Freeborn Scholarships in memory of the wife of the first UCD provost. The scholarships are awarded to junior level women who demonstrate high scholastic achievement, leadership, and service. In 1980, UFC added additional scholarships for candidates who were also re-entry students, at least 25 years of age, and who had an absence of five or more years from academic life.
UC Davis Education Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship is for undergraduates from any major who are planning to study abroad; preference for those with demonstrated financial need.
UC Davis Washington Center
The scholarship is awarded to undergraduates who attend the UC Washington Center.
UCDMC Volunteer Services
Participants in the UC Davis Medical Center’s Volunteer Program have taken note of the outstanding characteristics of student volunteers in the Center’s programs and established a scholarship to encourage students as they pursue a health profession career. To be eligible, a student must have done a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer work at UCDMC in the prior two years. Each year, one of the scholarships is awarded in memory of Barbara L. Ray. Mrs. Ray was president of Volunteer Services from 1985-87 and had been a member since 1977. She passed away in 1987 at the age of 62. In addition to her work at UCDMC, Mrs. Ray was actively involved with Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts.
Franklin and Rose Ellen Weber
The Webers established this scholarship in 1999. It is restricted to students who are single parents or the child of a single parent.
Liliane D. Wells
Liliane D. Wells established several scholarships for UCD students in the late 1970s. The scholarships are restricted to needy students, some for students studying botany and others with no restriction as to field of study. Mrs. Wells’s husband, Dr. C.E. Wells had been an early graduate of the University and its medical school.
Margaret Wildenradt Undergraduate Scholarship
The scholarship, which began in 2003, was established by the estate of Margaret Wildenradt. This award is in recognition of academic achievement and potential for future achievement. It is restricted to undergraduate students.
Yampol-Egerman
Max and Paulyn Yampol were early 20th century immigrants to the United States from eastern Europe. They were very interested in education and encouraged their daughter and grandchildren to live life fully. This scholarship in their memory was started in 1975 by one of the grandchildren, Howard Egerman (a 1968 graduate of UCD), and the scholarship was endowed in 1990 as a result of gifts from Egerman family members and friends. It is restricted to students who participate in extracurricular activities which demonstrate a goal of helping to improve society.

The Emilie, Sarah and Stanley Balmer Educational Fund of the San Francisco Foundation supports truly needy students having graduated from any California high school. The Fund provides four-year renewable scholarships for up to four students.
Bettencourt Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by a donation from the trust of Harry and Dorothy Bettencourt after their passing in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Though they had no children, both were highly interested and supportive of youth and education. In fact, Mrs. Bettencourt had been a teacher in Oakland, CA until her retirement. This scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated financial need.
Albert W. Bijou
Mr. Bijou was a Dixon area resident involved in swine breeding and dairying. He had a close relationship with students and interns in the School of Veterinary Medicine. A provision in his Will established this scholarship in 1971.
James P. Black Memorial
Mr. Black graduated from UC Davis with a degree in anthropology. At the time of his death in 1980, this memorial scholarship was established by the Black Family and is restricted to students with financial need.
Class of '94 Scholarship Fund
The fund was established by the graduating seniors of the Class of 1994. It is open to all scholarship eligible students.
President William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship TOP
When President Clinton spoke at UC Davis in 2002, he donated part of his honorarium to set up a scholarship fund to be used for undergraduates. It is restricted to students with financial need.
Myron Cropsey Scholarship
Myron established this scholarship in 1991 to be awarded to worthy UC Davis students.
Thomas B. Dutton
The Dutton Scholarship was established in 1991 by friends and associates to honor retiring Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Thomas B. Dutton and to provide financial aid for needy students.
Marjorie and Charles W. Elliott
Established by the Will of Marjorie Elliott to support undergraduate students at UC Davis. Restricted to students with financial need.
ESL Memorial
ESL is a subsidiary of TRW. On February 16, 1988 a gunman entered the ESL offices in Sunnyvale and began shooting. Seven lives were lost including some employees who were alumni of UC Davis. ESL, its employees and other area companies established this scholarship in their memory. It is restricted to students with financial need.
Jenna and Calvin Kang Scholarship
Mr. and Mrs. Kang established this scholarship in 2008 for UC Davis sophomores, juniors or seniors; it may be renewed to students who maintain scholarship eligibility. Students should have demonstrated financial need or a declared double major.
Clara M. Love Scholarships
The scholarship is for those with financial need. It is the donor’s wish that the recipients of the scholarship be non-smokers, and non users of alcohol or drugs. Preference is to be given first to descendants of her sisters, Manta Love North and Grace Love Vaughn, then any student who meets scholarship eligibility at UC Davis.
Margaret Alice Vansell Mattei
This scholarship for needy students was established in 1982 by Jane Vansell to honor her late daughter, Margaret Alice Vansell Mattei. The Vansell Family has been associated with the campus and community for many years. The late Dr. Vansell was a professor in the Department of Entomology.
Paul and Anita Munk TOP
This scholarship fund was established by Mr. & Mrs. Munk in 1976 to assist students in meeting the expenses associated with their university education. It is restricted to junior or senior students with financial need.
Vivian Bryan Nelson
Established in 1978 through a provision in the Will of Vivian Bryan Nelson, this scholarship is restricted to students having demonstrated financial need.
Robert and Lois Sawyer
The Sawyer Scholarship was established in 1995 as a result of gifts from Richard and Thomas Elder and Karen Wallin. The Sawyers were people of very modest means who deeply valued education because they had little of it themselves. Mr. Sawyer was interested in agrarian and mechanical pursuits and Mrs. Sawyer in homemaking and the arts. The scholarship is restricted to sophomore, junior or senior students with financial need.
Herbert and Gladys Smith
Established in 2001 from the estate of Gladys S. Smith. The scholarship is restricted to students with financial need.
Robert G. and Ida A. Sproul
The University of California, Berkeley Class of 1913 established the fund supporting this award in 1938. At their 50th anniversary in 1963, the fund was permanently dedicated to undergraduate scholarships for needy students and named in honor of classmate Robert Sproul and his wife. Dr. Sproul was president of the University of California from 1930 to 1958.
Percy W. and Nellie C. Thompson TOP
This scholarship was established in 1965 by a provision in the Will of Dorothy D. Thompson and is restricted to students with financial need.
University Scholarship
The University Scholarship is awarded to students with financial need and is funded from campus discretionary funds.
Willis Martin Vansell, D.V.M. Memorial
The late Dr. Willis Martin Vansell received a Bachelor of Science degree from UCD in 1951 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1953. He practiced veterinary medicine in southern California specializing in companion animals. This scholarship was established in 1983 by his mother, Jane Baird Vansell. It is restricted to students with financial need.
General
Unrestricted scholarship gifts from various donors are deposited in the General Scholarship Fund and awarded to outstanding students without restrictions.
Earl A. Gordon
Earl A. Gordon was a 1948 graduate of UC Davis. A bequest in his Will established this scholarship in 1998.
Rola Ortlieb
Rola Ortlieb had been a Sacramento-Davis area yoga instructor for over twenty years and had wonderful affiliations with UCD faculty and staff members. In recognition of the achievement, pride and encouragement they bring to the campus and its students, she established this scholarship in 1983 prior to her death in 1988.
Regents Scholarship
Established by the University's Board of Regents, this is the most prestigious undergraduate scholarship awarded at Davis. Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence and personal achievement. Awards are made to entering freshmen and to students as they begin their junior year.
"Students First" Scholarship
In 1994 UC Davis initiated a $15 million fundraising campaign to help offset the impact of a series of budget cuts and increases in student fees. The "Students First" campaign has resulted in many gifts to the campus. Unrestricted gifts to the campaign have been combined and are being awarded as "Students First" Scholarships.
UCD Annual Fund
The UCD Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising activity to obtain unrestricted contributions from alumni, parents, previous donors and friends of the campus. The Chancellor allocates these undesignated dollars to support a variety of campus needs, including the undergraduate scholarship program.
Hubert H. Wakeham
The Hubert H. Wakeham Scholarship was established in 1991 as a result of a bequest. The Wakeham Family were ranchers and landholders in Nevada and southern California. Mr. Wakeham’s life-long interest in agriculture and farming motivated his inclusion of UC Davis among those receiving the benefit of his philanthropy.
Jay & Barb Weisbrod
The Jay & Barb Weisbrod Scholarship was established in 2004 to support needy and worthy students at UC Davis.
