In keeping with the UC Davis Computer Ownership guidelines (computerownership.ucdavis.edu), the Financial Aid Office can provide eligible undergraduates receiving need-based financial aid with up to $1,900 - once during their academic careers - to be used to purchase a computer. Be sure to complete the Computer Purchase Form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office with an official price estimate from the vendor from whom you will be purchasing your computer.
- Complete the Computer Loan Application form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office with an official price estimate from the vendor from whom you will be purchasing your computer.
- Request the computer loan before purchasing the computer. Computers must be purchased during the academic year (September - May). Based on the estimate, the Financial Aid Office will increase your budget by up to $1,900 and award a loan to be used to purchase the computer.
- Funds are disbursed directly to your student account. Any outstanding balances or debt owed to the University at the time the computer loan is issued will be subtracted from the loan. If there is a remainder, a check or direct deposit will be issued. The computer purchase must be within $100 of the total computer loan or the loan amount will be adjusted to reflect the actual computer costs, and the student will be expected to pay back the difference.
- Once the funds are disbursed, a hold is placed on future financial aid disbursements until a copy of an actual receipt is submitted. The receipt must include your name, date of purchase, and payment method. If the receipt is not in the name of the student who requested the loan, a detailed explanation must be submitted with the receipt.
Please note that if the receipt is not submitted within 30 days, the funds will be pulled back and the student will be billed.
