Verification

Verification

Verification is a process required by the U.S. Department of Education and the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) that is intended to improve the accuracy of the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).

If selected for verification, we may request additional documents to verify the information on your financial aid application. We cannot disburse financial aid until all verification and documentation requirements are satisfied. All financial aid awarded is subject to change after verification.

Priority Deadline for 2024-25

The priority deadline was July 15, 2024, and was extended to August 15, 2024. Documents received after August 15, 2024, will be reviewed in the order in which they are submitted and may lead to delays in financial aid disbursement.

Verification FAQs

  • How will I know if I have been selected for verification?
  • Students will be notified during the aid application filing process if they have been selected for federal verification. To see if you have been selected for verification, go to the Requirements section of MyAwards. If you are selected for verification, you will see "Verification Requirements" under Incomplete Requirements.
  • What if I am a California Dream Act student?
  • For students who file the California Dream Act Application (CADAA), the process is similar. The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) also requires us to verify that the information used to complete the application is accurate by collecting supporting documentation from a percentage of students.
  • If the data on my FAFSA or CADAA is accurate, will my financial aid package change?
  • Yes, there is a chance it may. In addition to verifying certain tax information on the federal tax return, we apply an in-depth analysis when awarding our own institutional funds. There are items reported on the tax return that we take into consideration that the federal government may not. In turn, this may change the financial aid you were originally offered.

Completing Verification

In MyAwards under Requirements, you will see "Verification Requirements" if you are selected for verification. Click through for instructions and next steps.
