Award
Winners of the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation, or SMART, Scholarship receive full tuition and fees along with a stipend of $30,000 - $46,000, up to $1,200 for health insurance, up to $1,000 for books, a paid summer internship, and employment with the Department of War (DoW) upon graduation. These award amounts are annual, and the scholarship can be renewed.
Eligibility
- U.S. citizen
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- Be pursuing an eligible major
Candidate profile
Applicants should have an interest in a research career, and upperclassmen should have demonstrated research experience. Applicants should have a desire to work for the DoW, as there is a requirement to work one (1) year with the DoW for each year that the scholarship is received, and recipients are required to work summer internships with the DoW for the duration of the scholarship.
