Tips to assist with possible funding for your education abroad experience.

  1. File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) by the published deadline for priority funding each academic year.

  2. Start the financial planning process six months to a year before enrollment, including researching fees and costs and discussing finances with your family.

  3. Apply for study abroad scholarships via Study Abroad Scholarships or Financial Aid and Scholarships

  4. Obtain the specific CRNs for your program and enroll during summer registration.

  5. Obtain a visa support letter if your abroad program requires it.

  6. Check MyAwards when you have been notified of your financial aid offers for study abroad (within 30 days of departure).

  7. Carefully read notifications received from Financial Aid and Scholarships and take any necessary action to secure available funding, in addition to completing requirements posted on MyAwards. Incomplete/outstanding requirements will hold up the disbursement of aid.

  8. Accept the Code of Academic Conduct and acknowledge that you have begun academic activity for all registered courses in each quarter attended before the posted deadline. For more information, please visit Academic Participation.

  9. If you are expecting a financial aid refund, sign up for Direct Deposit.

  10. Look into enrolling in the Deferred Payment Plan.

  11. Contact the financial aid office with questions or concerns.

  12. Review MyBill and make a payment towards any remaining balance that financial aid does not cover by the established Fee Payment Deadline.
