Award

The Beinecke Scholarship provides $35,000 ($5,000 prior to graduate study and $15,000 per year) for two years of graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizen or national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
  • Junior at the time of application who will be enrolled full-time until graduation.
  • GPA of 3.5 or greater.
  • Plan to enter a research-focused MA, MFA, or PhD program in the arts, humanities, or social sciences (not including neuroscience or clinical psychology).
  • Have a documented history of receiving need-based financial aid as an undergraduate.

Campus Procedure

UC Davis can endorse one candidate to the national competition.  Applicants must meet with Prestigious Scholarship Advisor Scott Palmer to discuss their candidacy and application process. Qualified candidates will be given access to the online application that must be submitted by the campus deadline and includes:

  • Application Form
  • A 1,000-word statement describing your research or creative interests for graduate study and career aspirations beyond the studies.  The statement should also discuss your most relevant academic, professional, extracurricular, and personal experiences that have influenced and shaped your interests and plans.
  • CV up to 2-pages
  • Official Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • 3 Faculty letters of recommendation that assess your intellectual curiosity, character, and potential for advanced graduate study.
