National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship


Winners receive up to $20,000 per academic year towards undergraduate tuition, educational expenses, and living expenses. For each year of the scholarship, the student will complete a 10 week paid internship and commits to working for 1 year in a NIH research laboratory.


  1. U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
  2. Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student and will be an undergraduate student the following year
  3. Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or greater, or in the top 5% of class ranking
  4. Have exceptional financial need (defined on the NIH website)

Candidate Profile

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to a research career that can be evidenced through prior lab research, prior involvement in extracurricular science activities, or having taken advanced courses that are relevant to the chosen field. Applicants should have exceptional need and be willing to work for NIH upon graduation.

Campus Procedure

Students interested in applying for NIH Scholarships need to submit a completed Applicant Profile to the Undergraduate and Prestigious Scholarship Office at The Undergraduate and Prestigious Scholarships Office will work with each applicant to modify and strengthen the application to prepare it for submission. Once the application is ready for submission, the applicant will need to submit the final application through the NIH website.
