Important Updates

  • The priority filing date for the 2024-25 FAFSA and CADAA was extended to May 2, 2024. Visit Apply for Financial Aid for details.
  • The Department of Education has announced they will send information from the 2024-25 FAFSA to schools in mid-March. This may result in a delay in financial aid packaging and offers for the 2024-25 academic year. While awaiting your financial aid offer, we encourage you to utilize the UC Davis Financial Aid Estimator to estimate your potential aid.

American Rescue Plan FAQs

Financial Aid and Scholarships is finalizing the American Rescue Plan (ARP)/HEERF III awarding strategy for eligible students enrolled in summer 2021 and/or fall 2021.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

  • Which undergraduate students are eligible for ARP/HEERF III funding and how will eligibility be determined?
  • Eligibility for ARP funding in fall 2021 for undergraduate students is based on need as determined by the 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA)


    ARP awarding for summer 2021 was based on need as determined by the 2020-21 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Summer funding has been disbursed to eligible undergraduate students enrolled in the summer term(s) of the 2020-21 academic year. Eligibility was for undergraduate students with an Expected Family Contribution of up to $20,000.


    ARP awarding for summer 2022 was based on need as determined by the 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Summer funding has been disbursed to eligible undergraduate students enrolled in the summer term(s) of the 2021-22 academic year. Eligibility was for enrolled undergraduate students with any summer grant eligibility.

  • How much will the ARP/HEERF III funding for undergraduates be?

  • UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (FALL)
     • Students who are Pell Eligible, with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $0 will receive $2,200
     • Students who are Pell Eligible, with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) greater than $0 and up to $5,846 will receive $1,800
     • Students who are other grant recipients will receive $1,100
     • Remaining students with need as determined by the FAFSA and CADAA will receive $800


    UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (SUMMER 2021)
     • Students with an Expected Family Contribution of $0 to $5,846 received $600
     • Students with an Expected Family Contribution of $5,847 to $20,000 received $400


    UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (SUMMER 2022)
     • Students with any summer grant eligibility received $650

  • When will the ARP/HEERF III funding be disbursed to eligible undergraduate students?

  • FALL 2021
    We will begin awarding ARP/HEERF III
    funding to eligible undergraduate students enrolled in the 2021 fall term in November 2021. 

    Please note: ARP/HEERF III grants will be awarded to eligible enrolled students with need on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are depleted. Students should sign up for Direct Deposit and/or verify that the mailing address on file is accurate in the 
    Student Information System.


    SUMMER 2021
    Financial Aid and Scholarships began awarding ARP/HEERF III
    funding to eligible undergraduate students enrolled in the 2021 summer term(s) in July 2021.
     Disbursement schedule:

      •  Students enrolled in Summer Session 1: July 26, 2021
      •  Students enrolled in Summer Session 2: September 10, 2021


    SUMMER 2022
    Financial Aid and Scholarships began awarding ARP/HEERF III funding to eligible undergraduate students enrolled in the 2022 summer term(s) in July 2022. Disbursement schedule:

      •  Students enrolled in Summer Session 1: July 26, 2022
      •  Students enrolled in Summer Session 2: September 9, 2022

  • If I receive funds from the ARP/HEERF III and withdraw from the quarter/semester, do I have to return the ARP/HEERF III grant?
  • No, the ARP/HEERF III funding is intended to provide one-time relief funding to mitigate the disruption caused by COVID-19.

  • If I receive an ARP/HEERF III grant for the summer, will I also be eligible for a grant in the fall term?

  • Undergraduate students enrolled in both summer 2021 and fall 2021 terms, and with no change to eligibility, will receive grants in both terms.
  • If I receive an ARP/HEERF III grant for the fall, will I also be eligible for a grant in the summer term?
  • Undergraduate students enrolled in both fall 2021 and summer 2022 terms and with no change to eligibility will receive grants in both terms.

GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS

  • Which graduate/professional students are eligible for ARP/HEERF III fall funding and how will eligibility be determined?
  • Eligibility for ARP funding for graduate and professional students is based on need as determined by the 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Students are encouraged to file a FAFSA or CADAA as soon as possible, but no later than January 31, 2022, to be considered for funding.

    Please note: ARP/HEERF III grants will be awarded to eligible enrolled students with need on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are depleted. Students should sign up for Direct Deposit and/or verify that the mailing address on file is accurate in the Student Information System.

  • How much will the ARP/HEERF III fall funding for graduate/professional students be?

  • GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS  
    • Students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 0 will receive $2,500
    • Students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) greater than 0 and up to $5,000 will receive $1,500
    • Students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) greater than $5,000 and up to $20,000 will receive $1,000
    • Students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) greater than $20,000 and up to the Cost of Attendance (COA) may receive $600
    • Students with exceptional financial need will be prioritized.

Students are encouraged to file a FAFSA or CADAA as soon as possible, but no later than January 31, 2022, to be considered for funding.

    • Students enrolled in spring with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 0 and up to $5,000 will receive a $475 supplement.

    Please note: ARP/HEERF III grants will be awarded to eligible enrolled students with need on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are depleted. Students should sign up for Direct Deposit and/or verify that the mailing address on file is accurate in the Student Information System.

INTERNATIONAL/UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS (undergraduate and graduate)

  • Eligibility for ARP funding for international and undocumented students is based on need as determined by the ARP/HEERF III Application Form.

  • How much will the ARP/HEERF III fall funding for international and undocumented students be?

  • INTERNATIONAL/UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS
    UNDERGRADUATE
    • Students with an estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 0, up to $29,650 will receive up to $1,000
    • Students with an estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) greater than $29,650 and up to the Cost of Attendance (COA) may receive up to $800
    • Students with exceptional financial need will be prioritized.

    INTERNATIONAL/UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS 
    GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL

    • Students with an estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 0, up to $20,000 will receive up to $1,000
    • Students with an estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) greater than $20,000 and up to the Cost of Attendance (COA) may receive up to $600
    • Students with exceptional financial need will be prioritized.

  • When will the ARP/HEERF III fall funding be disbursed to international and undocumented students?

  • We will begin awarding ARP/HEERF III funding to eligible international and undocumented students enrolled in the 2021 fall term in December 2021. 

    Please note: ARP/HEERF III grants will be awarded to eligible enrolled students with need on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are depleted. Students should sign up for Direct Deposit and/or verify that the mailing address on file is accurate in the 
    Student Information System.

  • If I receive funds from the ARP/HEERF III and withdraw from the quarter/semester, do I have to return the ARP/HEERF III grant?
  • No, the ARP/HEERF III funding is intended to provide one-time relief funding to mitigate the disruption caused by COVID-19.

  • On the application, do I report an annual wage or the amount earned year to date?

  • Provide information based on a 12-month period that reflects your current financial situation. 

  • I currently live in California but my parents reside out of the country and I am here on a visa. What should I enter for the state of residency on the application?
  • Provide the state where you currently reside.
  • Do I need to do my own conversions for family income/tax information on the application if my parent(s) are from a different country and did not file in the U.S.? Do I need to provide my U.S. income only, or include income earned by my parent(s) or myself outside the U.S.? 
  • If you filed (or will file) a foreign tax return, IRS 1040NR or IRS 1040NR-EZ, or a tax return with Puerto Rico, another U.S. territory (e.g., Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Swain’s Island, or the Northern Marianas Islands) or one of the Freely Associated States, use the information from that return to fill out this form. If you filed a foreign return, convert all monetary units to U.S. dollars, using the published exchange rate in effect for the date nearest to today’s date.   • What if I don’t have access to my family’s income/tax information from a different country? What do I submit on the application?
  • Submit the application once you are able to access the information needed. We advise that you provide accurate information when applying as additional information may be requested to verify.
  • What is an example of Family's Additional Financial Information for the application?

  • For the household question on the application, do I have to include my family members even if they are not living in the US?
  • If you are a dependent student (under 24), your Parents’ Number of Family Members in 2021–22 is your Household Size. This includes:
     • Yourself
     • Your parent(s)
     • Your parent(s)' other children (even if they don’t live with your parents) if your parents will provide more than half of their support between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022
     • Others who live with your parent(s) and receive more than half of their support from your parent(s) and will continue to receive more than half of their support from your parent(s) between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022

    If you are an
    independent student (24 years or older or married), your number of Family Members in 2021-22 is your Household Size. To determine your Household Size, include:

     • Yourself
     • Your spouse, if married
     • Children (even if they don’t live with you) who will receive more than half of their support from you and, if married, your spouse between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022
     • Unborn children if they will be born during the award year
     • Others who live with you and receive more than half of their support from you, and will continue to receive more than half of their support from you between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022
  • If I need to make a correction, can I revise my application after submission?
  • Once your application is submitted you may not go back and make changes. If you would like to be considered for an edit to your application, submit a request through Contact An Expert with the changes you wish to make and the reason for the edit. During our evaluation, we will determine if the change will impact your eligibility and adjust accordingly.
